Site Safety Manager
Location: This position has two openings available, one in each of Lansing, MI and Kansas City, MO. Therefore, we work every day and, in every situation, to bring Safety awareness and action to our work and our lives.The Site Safety Manager’s role is to work with the Team Safety to help us minimize the risk of job-related accidents, monitor operations to eliminate hazardous activities and develop policies to promote occupational health and safety awareness.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following responsibilities are representative but not exhaustive. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.Safety Oversight & InspectionsConduct regular site safety inspections to identify and correct hazardous conditions.Review and approve Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documents and Pre-Task Plans prior to work commencement.Review job-specific permits including Hot Work, Confined Space, Grating Removal, and others as applicable.Maintain Safety Boards and ensure postings are current and visible to all personnel.Promote and model safe work practices across all project activities.Policy Development & Regulatory ComplianceDevelop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in alignment with OSHA and applicable government agency guidelines.Define and maintain OT/SCADA architecture standards pertaining to safety-critical systems where applicable.Ensure all site activities comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations.Maintain accurate OSHA recordkeeping, incident logs, and required regulatory documentation.Incident Management & Emergency ResponseLead accident and near-miss investigations; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.Develop, schedule, and conduct emergency response drills to ensure site preparedness.Respond promptly and effectively to employee safety concerns and reports.Training & OrientationFacilitate New Hire Safety Orientation for all incoming project personnel.Develop and conduct Tool Box Talks on a regular and topic-relevant basis.Provide ongoing safety training to field personnel, subcontractors, and project staff.Equipment & Committee OversightInspect and maintain records for critical safety equipment including air monitoring devices, fall protection equipment, and other life-safety gear.Oversee the Site Safety Committee, including agenda-setting, facilitation, and follow-through on action items.Organizational RelationshipsReports to the Senior Safety Manager. Works in close collaboration with Project Directors, Project Managers, Site Managers, Construction Superintendents, and Field Supervision across all active construction projects. The Site Safety Manager holds ultimate authority to halt work and enforce safety compliance on all Gallagher-Kaiser project sites.Qualifications & RequirementsEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredBachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.ExperienceMinimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry in a safety-focused role.Demonstrated experience managing site safety programs on active construction projects.Prior experience with automotive, industrial, or municipal construction environments preferred.Certifications & LicensesOSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification – Required.OSHA 510 (Occupational Safety & Health Standards for the Construction Industry) – Preferred.OSHA 511 (Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry) – Preferred.Valid driver's license – Required.Additional certifications (e.g., CHST, ASP, CSP) are a plus.Core CompetenciesThorough knowledge of OSHA construction standards and applicable federal/state safety regulations.Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence and hold others accountable to safety standards.Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to deliver training and present findings to stakeholders.Skilled at conducting root-cause analysis and developing actionable corrective measures.Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities across concurrent project sites.Proficient in maintaining records, generating reports, and using standard office and safety management tools.Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentThis role requires regular movement across active construction sites. The Site Safety Manager must be able to stand, walk, climb, and navigate physically demanding environments. Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. may be required. The position involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, elevated noise levels, and other construction-site hazards. Compliance with all site-specific safety requirements — including PPE, drug/alcohol testing, hard hats, and steel-toe footwear — is mandatory. Some office-based work is required for documentation and reporting.
