Retail Store Manager

The Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula is dedicated to advancing voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving our community through effective action and leadership. Through hands-on service and strong partnerships, the League supports a range of local initiatives focused on building stronger, more equitable communities.One of the League’s primary fundraising engines is The Shop, a well-loved nonprofit thrift store in Menlo Park. Every donation and purchase directly supports programs and grants that benefit our local community.We are seeking a hands-on, highly organized Store Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our busy nonprofit retail store.This is a highly active, hands-on role in a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The Shop operates with constant movement, from donation intake and pricing to merchandising and customer flow. The right person thrives in that energy, can juggle competing priorities, and knows how to keep a team focused and moving forward.What You’ll DoOversee daily store operations including opening/closing, sales, and floor managementLead, schedule, and support a team of staff and volunteersManage donation flow, pricing, and inventory from back room to sales floorEnsure strong customer service and a welcoming in-store experienceMaintain an organized, efficient, and safe work environmentPartner with League leadership on sales goals, staffing, and operational improvementsTroubleshoot issues in real time and keep the store running smoothly during busy periodsHelp implement systems and processes to improve efficiency and consistencyWhat We’re Looking ForProven retail management experience (thrift, resale, or high-volume environments a plus)Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage both employees and volunteersComfortable working in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environmentHighly organized with a bias toward action and follow-throughConfident decision-maker who can prioritize and problem-solve on the flyPositive, team-oriented mindset with a willingness to jump in wherever neededInterest in nonprofit work and community impactPhysical RequirementsAbility to be on your feet for extended periods throughout the dayAbility to lift, move, and carry merchandise regularly (including items up to ~30–40 lbs)Comfortable navigating a busy retail environment with frequent movement between the sales floor and back roomAbility to bend, reach, and handle inventory as part of daily operationsWhy This Role MattersThe Shop plays a critical role in funding the League’s community programs.
