This is a hands-on leadership role ideal for someone with strong mechanical knowledge, heavy equipment experience, and proven management skills. The Shop Manager will oversee mechanics, manage workflow, maintain inventory, and ensure exceptional service and operational efficiency.Key Responsibilities:Daily Operations• Oversee the day-to-day operations of a diesel mechanic shop• Ensure productivity goals, safety standards, and quality expectations are met• Coordinate workflow and prioritize repair schedules for diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment• Meet weekly with ownership to review shop performance and attend monthly management meetingsStaff Management• Hire, train, supervise, and mentor mechanics and shop personnel• Monitor employee performance and workload distribution• Recommend or initiate personnel actions including hiring, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures• Step in as needed to assist with diagnostics and repairsInventory & Equipment Management• Manage parts inventory for diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment• Order tools, equipment, materials, and replacement parts as needed• Ensure the shop is organized, well-stocked, and operating efficiently• Maintain vendor relationships and oversee supply requisitionsCustomer & Operational Excellence• Ensure excellent customer service and timely completion of repairs• Maintain compliance with company policies and safety regulations• Foster a productive, team-oriented shop environmentQualifications:• 3-5+ years of experience in a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment shop• Prior leadership or foreman experience strongly preferred• Strong knowledge of dump trucks, diesel trailers, and heavy equipment• Proven ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, hands-on environment• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills• Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality standardsWork Environment:• Primarily shop-based environment• Hands-on role requiring both administrative oversight and mechanical involvement• May require weekend or holiday hours based on operational needsIf you're looking for a role that combines leadership, hands-on work, and long-term career growth, this is your opportunity.
