SFDK Water Quality / Life Support Supervisor $80,000-$95,000/Year

Overview: Responsible for the overall operation of the Life Support department including staffing, water chemistry, facility operation, facility maintenance, upgrades, project management, and adherence to governmental and safety policies.Responsibilities:Responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation of the Life Support departmentOperate and maintain all related equipment and chemical processesInterview, coach and discipline Associates as needed with the Facility Maintenance ManagerAssist in preparation of annual budget under the direction of the Director of Maintenance and the Facility Maintenance ManagerOversee the purchasing of new materials and supplies for the departmentUnder the direction of the Director of Maintenance and Facility Maintenance Manager, act as Project Manager for the design of new exhibitsCommunicate needs and problems to the Director of Maintenance, Director of Animal Care and Veterinarian DepartmentOversee the department's safety program and enforce safety policies and proceduresServe as a member of the Animal Husbandry Committee and the Animal Welfare Committee to review park compliance with legislationServe as Chairman of the Dive Control Board; work with the DSO to ensure safe dive operationsInterface with regulatory agencies and accrediting organizations to maintain all standards accordingly.Work in concert with Facility Maintenance Manager to ensure all facilities are complaint with both regulatory and accrediting organization as appropriate.Develop, implement and enforce all departmental policies as needed; follow and enforce all polices of Six Flags Discovery KingdomOther duties as requestedQualifications:2-5 years previous experience as a Life Support Lead with an AZA or ZAA accredited institution is preferred or equivalent work experienceAALSO Life Support Operator or AALSO Water Quality Certification PreferredMust be proficient managing closed loop filtration systems for marine mammals and fishMust be proficient troubleshooting, repairing and upgrading mechanical equipment associated with life support systems (Pumps, motors, ozone, automation, etc.)Must have a thorough working knowledge of water chemistry, as it applies to a wide variety of systems including marine mammal, fish and avian systemsOpen water diving certificate preferred or willingness to obtainPrior experience in project management requiredMust be able to work in all types of weather both indoors and outdoorsMust be able to deal effectively with other professionals and governmental agenciesMust possess excellent organizational skillsMust be able to work evenings, weekends and holidaysMust be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. Must be a strong swimmer and willing to work in and around cold saltwater as neededMust possess good corrected/uncorrected eyesight.
