We care passionately about news and our ability to help our customers to get informed and inspired about what’s important to them (and us.)Our Live and Interactive Experiences team is growing, and we need a seasoned visual storyteller to help drive the future of how people get informed during high stakes and globally visible live events, like elections coverage, planned news events, or breaking news storylines. You have an uncanny ability to translate complex concepts into engaging experiences at the intersection of data visualization and product design. You know when to use maps, charts, plots, or dashboards to convey the bigger picture or let users dive into the details. Your expertise and ideas will help us deliver best-in-class news experiences that millions of people depend on every day—and in life’s moments when they need it most.The Job:Work on a passionate, consumer-centric agile team to create and evolve our live experiencesHelp define, elevate, and grow the data visualization landscape and vision for the upcoming elections products and beyondConceive high-quality data visualization projects that are intuitive and clearly map to user needsCollaborate as part of a cross-functional team of product designers, engineers, product and project managers, editorial, and (for elections) the NBC News to ideate and define opportunitiesGrow expertise and stay current on customer needs and behaviors as they apply to elections coverage and live experiences, working with Customer Experience and Research teams.Think omnichannel as a primary voice connecting results experiences between web, apps, and the interactive Big Board used on broadcastWork with teams outside of our product and technology space, collaborating with data graphic journalists, art directors, and more to help deliver a cohesive elections landscapeCapture interactions, edge-cases, & the various states of these experiences through deliverables such as user flows, wireframes, and prototypesWork within, and contribute to, our design systems as well as cross-platform visual systems and languagesBe a core contributor and/or co-facilitator in product discovery.Facilitate design ideationUse data to inform design decisions and continually validate your work with real usersUtilize design thinking skills to gather insights and inputs from internal stakeholdersBuild low-fi to high-fi designs as needed in the product development process to run reviews and to gain buy-in on ideas.Collaborate with design peers and their teams to share learnings, leverage shared effort and ensure quality cross-platform experienceQualificationsQualifications/Requirements : At least 5 years of experience designing rich interactivevisualizations for large data sets Deep knowledge of the primaries and general electionsspace or passion for news and politics Strong design skills, including layout, typography, color,and interaction design. Experience building information graphics for mobiledevices and an understanding of usability implicationsacross platforms Proficiency with contemporary design, prototyping tools,and methods Portfolio with examples of relevant, finished digital workand their professional application Strong knowledge or understanding of HTML, CSS andJavaScript. 3+ years’ experience designing solutions in fields thatinclude visual information design, and/or interactive datavisualization development.
