The organization values ongoing learning and the use of modern technology to support accurate diagnoses and effective treatments.Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Optician and Optometric Technician role based at Lange Eye Institute in The Villages, FL. The Optician responsibilities include assisting patients with frame selection, lens options, and fittings; taking precise measurements; adjusting and repairing eyewear; and coordinating optical orders with laboratories. The Optometric Technician responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, obtaining medical and vision histories, performing pre-testing and diagnostic procedures, and documenting findings in the practice’s electronic records system. The role also involves educating patients on eyewear care, contact lens handling, and treatment plans, as well as managing appointment flow, maintaining clean, organized exam and optical areas, and supporting front-desk duties as needed. This position works closely with doctors and team members to ensure efficient clinic operations and a positive patient experience.Qualifications Experience with optical dispensing, including frame selection, lens counseling, measurements (PD, segment height), and basic eyewear adjustments and repairs.Background in clinical eye care support, such as pre-testing, visual acuity assessment, tonometry, imaging or diagnostic testing, and accurate electronic health record documentation.Strong patient-facing skills, including clear communication, active listening, empathy, and the ability to explain procedures, eyewear options, and care instructions in understandable terms.Organizational and administrative abilities, such as managing schedules, handling patient intake, coordinating orders, and maintaining clean, well-stocked exam and optical areas.Comfort with technology, including practice management or EHR systems, diagnostic equipment, and standard office software.High school diploma or equivalent required; formal opticianry or ophthalmic technician training, certification, or licensure is preferred.Previous experience in an optometry, ophthalmology, or optical setting is preferred but not required for candidates with strong customer service and technical aptitude.Ability to stand for extended periods, perform fine manual tasks, and work a consistent full-time schedule that may include some evenings or weekends based on practice needs.
