Human Resources Generalist / Payroll Processor
The Human Resources Generalist serves as the primary payroll administrator and supports a broad range of human resources functions including employee relations, recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, safety/workers compensation and compliance. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of balancing employee-facing HR responsibilities with payroll deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Job Functions:
Payroll Processing
Process biweekly payroll for 200+ hourly and salaried employees in accordance with established procedures and payroll schedules.
Enter payroll-related changes including new hires, terminations, pay rate updates, bonuses, deductions, benefits, and employee status changes.
Respond to employee payroll questions, resolve pay discrepancies and ensure sensitive payroll data is handled confidentially.
Support payroll reporting, reconciliation, and year-end processes including W-2 and 1095 distribution and documentation.
Assist with annual benefits compliance processes, including Form 5500 audit support, by coordinating required data and documentation.
Dig into payroll issues until resolved including working with payroll provider for timely resolution.
HR Generalist Responsibilities
Serve as a primary on-site HR contact for employees and leaders, providing guidance on policies, procedures, and HR programs.
Support recruitment efforts by posting jobs, interviewing applicants, assisting in the selection process and completing the pre-employment and onboarding processes.
Coordinate onboarding and orientation, ensuring new hires complete required employment documentation and training per guidelines.
Support employee relations initiatives including documentation, investigations, and addressing workplace concerns.
Maintain accurate employee personnel files, HRIS records, and required compliance documentation.
Assist with performance management processes including coaching leaders on documentation and employee communications.
Administer FMLA leave including tracking, documentation, and communication.
Manage ADA accommodation requests by coordinating the interactive process, reviewing documentation, communicating with employees and leaders to support reasonable accommodation decisions and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
Serve as the case manager for workers’ compensation claims, including initial reporting, documentation, follow-up, and coordination with medical providers and insurance carriers. Complete required incident and injury reporting including OSHA recordkeeping requirements.
Assist with training coordination, employee communications, and engagement activities.
Coordinate training records and documentation to support compliance with company requirements and applicable quality standards.
Participate in and support external audits (ISO, IATF, MedAccred) ensuring requested HR and training documentation is available, accurate, and audit-ready.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding employee and company information at all times.
Support, follow and enforce all safety policies and practices of the company.
Support and participate in the Lean Manufacturing initiatives of the company.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements/Working Conditions:
2+ years of experience in payroll processing for 150+ employees and human resources support required, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Associate degree in Human Resources or related field required; Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
Strong working knowledge of payroll procedures, timekeeping systems, and wage and hour compliance required.
Experience supporting hourly workforces including attendance, overtime, and shift schedules required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel required.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet strict deadlines required.
Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels required.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in sensitive matters required.
Must be able to support three shifts of employee needs in the manufacturing environment when necessary.
Experience with payroll/HR systems such as UKG preferred.
Knowledge of benefits administration, leave management, and employee relations best practices preferred.
HR certification (PHR/SHRM-CP) preferred.
Work Environment
This position is based on-site within a manufacturing facility and requires regular interaction with employees and leadership in both office and production environments. The role may require occasional time spent on the production floor and adherence to all applicable safety guidelines and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Must be able to occasionally walk the production floor and follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; talk or hear; and use hands to handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk and climb stairs. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually low in the office and moderate in the manufacturing facility.
