Forward Deployed Engineer

San Francisco, on-site.An AI-native fintech is replacing 30+ year-old legacy banking infrastructure — automating up to 90% of the manual work that still runs the industry today. Their AI-native loan origination system compresses a 90-day loan cycle down to 3 days. YC-backed, $29M+ raised, $10M+ contracted revenue, 40 people and growing to 100 within 12 months. The founder of the #1 SBA lender in the US sits on the board and has adopted the platform.Forward Deployed Engineers are the connective tissue between the product and the banks that run on it. You embed with customers, understand their workflows at a level most engineers never reach, and build directly against what you find — shaping the platform in the process. This is not a support role. You own outcomes.This is a unified search across two levels: junior FDE (0–3 years / standout recent grads) and senior FDE / Forward Deployment Tech Lead (3–5+ years, production SaaS). Level is calibrated in the loop.What You’ll Own→ Embed with bank customers on-site (~1 week/month, some 2-week co-locations) and translate what you learn into product→ Build and ship features directly — own workstreams end-to-end, not just tickets→ Run discovery with users; at senior level, run the room and decide what’s worth building→ Shape platform architecture and set the bar for how we build→ Measure yourself by whether the customer’s job got betterWhat We’re Looking For→ Founder or builder mindset — you’ve started something, been an early engineer somewhere real, or intend to found something→ Track record of intensity — Olympiad/competitive background, strong internships, shipped side projects with real users→ Ability to go deep on a domain and come out knowing it better than expected→ Genuine energy for customer-facing work→ Outcome-driven — you measure yourself by customer impact, not output→ Willingness to travel (~1 week/month on-site) — non-negotiable→ Based in San FranciscoCompensation: $160K–$190K base (junior); up to $265K (senior / tech lead) + equityWhat is TechTree?TechTree combines AI agents with a human support team to give candidates a better, more transparent hiring experience.Our AI Agent gets to know your background, experience, and what you’re optimising for.
