Position Type:Maintenance/Custodial/CustodianDate Posted:3/17/2026Location:Forestview Middle SchoolPosition Title: Grounds/ CustodianDepartment/Building: Forestview Middle SchoolReports to: Director of Building & GroundsPosition Duty Days/Contract: 12 months, 8 hour daysLink to Union ContractSalary Range: $16.29-$29.60 per hourPosition Function:The Grounds Employee is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of all outdoor areas of the school campus. This includes lawns,athletic fields, playgrounds, parking lots, sidewalks, and landscaped areas. The role ensures that school grounds are clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors.Essential Functions:Maintains a high level of grounds maintenance standards on all outdoor stadiums, bleachers, outdoor athletic fields, courts, skating rinks.Including, but not limited to, mowing fields, preparing infields, chalking / painting lines, and setting up equipment for games and events.Responds to work orders and troubleshoots maintenance repairs using the Districts Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).Performs mowing and snow removal services.Maintains irrigation systems and reports water consumption data to the B&G office per MN DNR requirements.Demonstrated knowledge of gardening techniques, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.Provides grounds maintenance assistance to the school Maintenance and Custodial teams at all district sites as needed to ensure schools look as nice as possible.Maintain and operate school district vehicles, trucks, all terrain vehicles,lawn & garden equipment, chainsaws, brush saws, weed whips and snow removal equipment, aerial lifts, and forkliftDemonstrate excellent communication and people skills; especially with the athletic directors, coaches, principals, and community event organizers.Demonstrate the ability to anticipate the needs of coaches, school staff and the publicUtilize rakes, shovels, hoses and other landscaping tools and equipment to maintain all athletic and grounds facilities.Clean athletic field bathrooms and other outdoor buildingsCommunicate any field, building or personnel issues to the Director of Buildings and GroundsAll other duties as assignedSafety sensitive Job Duties:Maintain school district vehicles, trucks and all terrain vehiclesMaintain and operate lawn & tractor equipmentMaintain and operate chainsaws, brush saws and other tree/brush cutting devicesMaintain and operate weed whips and other lawn maintenance equipmentMaintain and operate snow removal equipmentOperate forkliftOperate aerial lifts over ten feetAdditional Duties:Eligible to operate school district vehicles according to District guidelinesSchedule and oversee maintenance activitiesSchedule and supervise employeesNote: The above description is illustrative of tasks andresponsibilities. It is not meant to be all inclusive of every task orresponsibility.Equipment:Uses hand tools of trade and related power equipment, i.e., brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners,snow blowers, shovels, power mower and hand tools.Safety Requirements:Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of tools and power equipment used in the performance of duties.Use appropriate safety gear.Must comply with school district's chemical hygiene program and follow SDS'sKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow.Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:Works in standard office and school building environments.Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.Ability to frequently walk, bend, twist, turn, crouch, etc.Ability to see and hear to the extent necessary to perform essential duties.Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.Qualifications Profile:Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.Previous experience in building maintenance and grounds keeping and cleaning.MN Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.Application Procedure:
