Details 10-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center Patient population includes renal/pancreatic transplant (donors and recipients), gynecological oncology, surgical oncology, urology, colorectal surgery, and bariatric/minimally invasive surgery RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; CNA support at 1:10 Specialized procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, PCA, surgical drains, wound care, and management of drips such as Rituxan, thymoglobulin, and neostigmine EMR: Epic (experience required) Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and ON-Q pumps Telemetry monitoring provided on unit 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM start), 36 hours per week Every other weekend rotation required No on-call or call-back requirements Floating within the cancer center first, then to any med/surg unit within the hospital; cross-facility float for emergency situations only Requirements Active NC or compact RN license required Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 2 years of med/surg tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year Strong assessment, critical thinking, communication, and patient advocacy skills required Proficiency with Epic EMR required At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible Additional Information Support staff includes CNAs, an adjacent unit secretary (Day Hospital), designated day shift charge RNs, experienced resource nurses on nights, respiratory therapy available 24/7, and attending physicians/residents/APPs on staff RNs are responsible for drawing STAT and timed labs; no dedicated IV/VAT team, though several RNs are trained in ultrasound-guided IV placement Orientation includes a facility-level NEO session followed by 1 day of departmental orientation A clinical interview is required for this position Travelers are expected to cover 75% of holidays Royal blue scrubs required Free on-site parking available First-time travelers may be considered depending on experience Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible American Traveler Job ID P-690857.
