Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.Basic RequirementsUnited States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA PolicyDegree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicineThe degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completedCurrent - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of ColumbiaResidency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training - approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification(NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) - OR Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) - OR Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States) - which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiencesResidents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as ""Physician Resident Providers"" (PRPs)PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e. - not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basisPRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privilegedrather - they are to have a ""scope of practice"" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervisionAdditionally - continue - or finish your career here | VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System(youtube.com) This position is a blend of general anesthesia and cardiac anesthesiaFUNCTION/SCOPE OF THE POSITION: The staff anesthesiologist administers anesthesia care alone or supervises physicians in-training (residents) or certified registered nurse anesthetistsWhen working alone - he/she examines the patient before and after anesthesia - writes pre- and post-anesthesia orders - confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction - manages the anesthetic period - and follows patients if is appropriate in the post-anesthesia periodDUTIES/TASKS AND RESPONSIBLITIES: When supervising trainees - an attending anesthesiologist meets the following conditions to demonstrate sufficient personal and identifiable medical services to the patient to exercise full - personal control over the management of anesthetic careThe attending anesthesiologist must as a minimum: Review the patient's history and the record of examination and testsPersonally - will examine the patientConfirm or revise the course of treatment to be followedEither performs the anesthesiologist's services required by the patient or supervises the treatment to assure that appropriate services are provided by residents or CRNAsBe recognized by the patient as his/her attending anesthesiologistThe attending anesthesiologist - in providing medical direction of a CRNA must as a minimum: Evaluate the pre-anesthetic examination and evaluationPrescribe the anesthesia plan using appropriate techniques of the plan such as - but not limited to insertion of intravenous lines - arterial lines - centra lines - insertion of other invasive monitoring catheters - regional anesthesia - and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)Either personally participate - or be immediately available - in the most demanding procedures in the anesthesia plan - including the induction and emergenceEnsure that any procedures in the anesthesia plan that he/she does not perform are performed by a qualified individualMonitor the course of anesthesia administration at frequent intervalsRemain physically present and available for immediate diagnosis and treatment of emergencies Provide indicated post-anesthesia careAttending anesthesiologists in the service are also faculty members of the University of Colorado School of Medicine - they are expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department of AnesthesiologyThis may include - but is not limited to preparing and delivering lectures - service as a preceptor - and providing one-on-one instructionAttending anesthesiologists as faculty members are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical and/or laboratory researchVA offers a comprehensive total rewards packageVHA Physician Total RewardsRecruitment/Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) -
