We also operate a Canadian NRT gum business distributed nationally across major retailers, and a UK arm. We're well-funded and scaling toward our next chapter. We're a ~40-person team headquartered in Austin, building something rare in CPG... a brand with category-defining product, real retail muscle, and a clear regulatory moat.The RoleWe need a Controller who owns the close, owns the books, and owns the numbers we put in front of our board, our auditors, and our investors. You'll partner directly with our VP Finance to build a finance function that scales with us through the next stage. This is a hands-on role with real agency and ownership.You’ll play a critical role in ensuring our financials are accurate, timely, and defensible as we nearly 4x our retail footprint... and a big part of that is getting our trade accruals tight, predictive, and defensible.In partnership with the VP Finance, this person will also help establish departmental budgeting processes and reporting cadences that allow leadership to monitor spend, identify variances early, and improve financial discipline as the company scales.You'll have leverage from day one. We have a junior accountant on staff, a bookkeeping team, and an outsourced accounting partner supporting us. Your job isn't to do everything yourself... it's to lead, set the standard, and pull the right levers across people, systems, and tools to keep things tight.What You'll OwnMonth-end close, start to finish... target is a tight 10-business-day close moving toward 5Trade accrual methodology, deduction management, and the operating cadence to keep both clean as we scaleDeveloping and strengthening internal controls, accounting policies, and SOPs across the finance and accounting function to support scalability, audit readiness, and operational disciplineEstablishing standardized close checklists, reconciliations, review procedures, and reporting cadences across the organizationLeading or supporting finance systems implementations, integrations, and automation initiatives across QBO, CIN7, reporting platforms, and adjacent operational systemsPartnering with leadership to evolve the company’s finance systems architecture as the business scales, including ERP, consolidation, and trade management capabilitiesCIN7 hygiene and reconciliation cadence between our inventory system and the GLFlash close variance analysis... reducing the gap between flash and final to single digitsRevenue recognition across retail, DTC, Canadian gum, and UK channelsInventory accounting across US, Canadian, and emerging UK/EU production partnersAP, AR, payroll oversight, cash management, bank recsMulti-entity consolidation across US, Canada, and UK... working with our corporate accountants on Canadian books and supporting the Delaware flip workAudit readiness... we expect to be in an audit-grade close cadence within 12 monthsLeading and developing our existing accounting bench (junior accountant, bookkeeping team, outsourced accounting partner)Our StackQuickBooks Online, CIN7, Avalara, Ramp, plus Snowflake and Tableau for analytics. You should be comfortable operating in a modern finance stack and proactively leveraging systems, automation, and AI tools to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and scale the function intelligently as the business grows.What You BringCPA required8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 in a Controller or Assistant Controller seatCPG experience is a must... ideally a brand with retail distribution and meaningful trade spend at scaleBattle-tested experience with trade promotion accruals and deduction managementA track record of building internal controls, process, and reporting structure in a scaling company... not just maintaining what was already thereMulti-entity, multi-currency experience (US + Canada at minimum, ideally UK as well) is required, not a nice-to-haveBig 4 or national firm foundation is a plus, especially if you've since moved in-houseDemonstrated comfort using AI tools and automation to drive efficiency in close, reconciliation, and reportingComfort operating in a venture-backed environment with real board and investor scrutinyHands-on with QBO, CIN7, Avalara, Ramp or comparable toolsWho Thrives HereYou have agency.
