ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Organize and conduct an identification program for communication disorders by utilizing appropriate screening criteria, materials, procedures and recordkeepingSelect and employ appropriate diagnostic procedures and develop guidelines for a comprehensive remediation programMaintain a system to record all identification and evaluative data and continuous student performance information Identify factors which determine the effectiveness of therapyParticipate as a team member in special education assessment, eligibility and program designComplete all required reports and records, including Medicaid billings, in a timely and accurate mannerConsult with parents, staff and administration regarding student needsUnderstand and comply with current legislation regarding children with disabilitiesUnderstand and follow policies and procedures as adopted by the school districtAssist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policiesFollow Code of Ethics and maintain a high standard of professional behaviorMaintain student confidentiality according to HIPAA and FERPA guidelinesTake all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesQUALIFICATIONS:Must have a Master's Degree and possess, or be eligible, for Washington State ESA Certificate as a School Speech Language Pathologist/Audiologist in the State of WashingtonKnowledge of state and federal legislation for disabilities (WAC 392-172A, IDEA '04, Section 504, etc.)Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative proceduresAbility to conduct individual, group, and classroom language instruction with young childrenAbility to deliver articulation therapyDemonstrated ability to maintain individual case records according to lawKnowledge of assistive/augmentative communication technologyDemonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using District-provided hardware and softwareDemonstrated ability to work directly with Special Education personnel, parents and school staff when developing individual educational programs for students with speech and language deficitsDemonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and ability to set appropriate expectations for individual studentsAbility to work a flexible schedule and travel between buildings as requiredDemonstrated ability to conduct appropriate testing, diagnostic and evaluative activities of students with communication disordersExperience working with interdisciplinary and interagency teamsDemonstrated willingness to participate in professional development activities designed to upgrade professional skillsDemonstrated ability to direct, supervise and evaluate studentsDemonstrated ability to coordinate activities between SLP services and other district programsAbility to supervise and schedule classified staff assigned to assist in delivery of program servicesOTHER FUNCTIONS:Perform all other duties as assignedBARGAINING UNIT AFFILIATION:Per agreement between the Kelso School District and the Kelso Education AssociationRESPONSIBLE TO:Director of Special EducationKelso School District #458 complies with all federal rules and regulations and does not discriminate in any programs or activities on the basis of sex, race, creed, religion, color, national origin, age, veteran or military status, sexual orientation, gender expression or identity, disability, or the use of a trained dog guide or service animal and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups listed in Title 36 of the United States Code.
