HS Guidance Counselor
The HS Guidance Counselor utilizes leadership, advocacy and collaboration to promote studentsuccess by providing preventive services and responding to identified needs through implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that helps guide all learners in their academic success, personal andsocial development, and career and college planning and readiness.Essential Functions And Responsibilities Counsels students by providing guidance concerning attendance, enrollment, academics,scheduling, college and career opportunities, maintaining records and files. Provides confidential counseling environment. Delivers individual and group guidance curriculum supporting student development. Provides counseling for departing students: transfers and dropouts. Prepares and reviews transcripts and other academic documentation for new and returningstudents. Works collaboratively with teaching staff to develop a four (4) year plan for inclusion in theIndividual Learning Plan. Analyzes student data and develops data-driven programs for intervention action plans. Provides responsive services to individuals or groups on academic and personal issues. Provides an individual planning system to guide students toward post-secondary goals. Assists students in the acquisition of study skills, academic opportunities andbenefits. Provides a support system that strengthens the efforts of teachers, staff, and parents. Supports standardized testing program; parent education; and staff development. Provides academic counseling, including recommendations on Advanced Placement (AP) and technicalcourses. Assists in identification, referral and appropriate placement of students with specialneeds. Audits student schedules for candidacy for graduation as determined by District and statepolicies. Conducts scheduled and spontaneous discussions with teachers, administrators, parents andcontracted agency personnel. Other duties as assignedMinimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree AND Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement OR Equivalent combination of education and experience Should meet minimum certification requirements for a School Counselor as outlined in LouisianaDOE Bulletin 746 and CSAL, Inc. school board requirements are as they exist at the time of hire. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based search engines, and database systems Ability to travel as needed, up to 10% of the time for meetings, professional development,etc. Able to successfully pass background check and DCFS Central Registry screenEligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorshipPreferred Qualifications Master’s degree in school counseling (Preferred) Advanced coursework in counseling and administration In depth understanding of all Local, State, and Federals laws and mandated reportingRequirements Experience in a charter school environment (Preferred) Experience with state career planning systems, for example PathfinderOther Skills & Abilities Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish aprofessional, effective rapport with students Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Demonstrate the use of good judgement in decision-making Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technologyWORK ENVIRONMENT characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounterswhile performingthe essential functions of this job. Usual school/office environment May be noisy during high traffic times. Temperatures my change from very cold to very hot depending on the location of work and theweather.
