Magazine as both a Best Workplace and an Inc. 5000 company, and we pride ourselves on being responsive, collaborative, and accountable to our clients and each other.About the RoleThis is a high-volume, multi-state payroll tax role requiring strong attention to detail and ownership.As a Payroll Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely deposit and filing of payroll taxes across all federal, state, and local jurisdictions. You will play a critical role in ensuring compliance, resolving tax issues, and supporting a diverse client base operating across multiple states.What Success Looks LikeTax filings and deposits are consistently accurate and on timeTax notices are resolved quickly and effectivelyClients experience minimal disruption related to payroll tax issuesInternal teams can rely on you as the subject matter expert for payroll taxIssues are identified proactively, not just resolved reactivelyWhat You’ll DoEnsure timely deposit and filing of federal, state, and local payroll taxes across all jurisdictionsReview payroll records to ensure accurate tax treatment and compliance with applicable regulationsPerform monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reconciliationsProcess year-end filings, including W-2s, W-2Cs, and amendmentsSet up and maintain tax profiles for new client accountsManage the Power of Attorney (POA) process for federal and state tax agenciesCoordinate with internal teams and external tax providers to ensure accurate and compliant filingsInvestigate and resolve tax notices, penalties, and agency inquiriesAnalyze complex tax issues and work directly with agencies to resolve discrepanciesPerform other duties as assignedWhat We’re Looking For5+ years of payroll tax experience, preferably in a multi-state, high-volume environmentExperience handling tax filings and notices across multiple jurisdictions at scaleStrong familiarity with payroll tax filings, including Forms 941, 940, W-2, and state unemployment filings, across multiple jurisdictionsExperience with PrismHR and Payroll Tax Management (PTM) or MasterTax systems strongly preferredStrong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulationsHigh attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyStrong problem-solving skills, especially in resolving tax notices and discrepanciesAbility to work independently in a remote environmentBachelor’s degree preferred
