The goal is to ensure that students will become productive and well-adjusted adults.Qualifications:Valid ESA in School Counseling or School Social WorkTwo years of experience preferredAbility to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverseAbility to relate well to administrators, teachers, parents, and studentsAbility to convey humor and positive energy with team members, students, and parentsRegular and punctual attendancePreference in screening of applications will be given to bilingual candidates, especially SpanishExperience with the management of 504 plans, AVID, and MTSS systems preferredSuch alternatives to the above requirements and desirable qualifications may be made as the district finds appropriate.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules, and directivesImplement the Comprehensive School Counseling Program as defined by the State of Washington and Woodland Public SchoolsMake him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling servicesComfortable with public speaking to facilitate parent/caregiver nights, staff professional development, student groups, and activitiesAdvocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect studentsFacilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians, and staffConnect students, parents/guardians, and staff with specialized referral agenciesUnderstand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student, their parents/guardians, and staffImplement individual and group counseling methods that are appropriateConduct career and educational planning activitiesParticipate in in-service activities promoted by the districtSubmit required reports promptly and accuratelySchedule students in appropriate coursesConsult with students, parents, and staff to assist students with academic/career planningMeet individually with every student in the assigned grade band to develop a career planAssist students with scholarship, college entrance, and financial aid applicationsSchedule and coordinate AP, ACT, PSAT, SAT, ASVAB, etc.Be the liaison for our Running Start program and help ensure proper student enrollmentWork with our community partners for our local scholarship programMaintain the counseling websitePerform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or the District AdministratorPhysical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
