Registered Nurse (RN) Medical Unit
ChristianaCare is seeking a compassionate and patient-focused Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Medical Unit within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. As a non-profit health system dedicated to serving the communities of Delaware and the surrounding region, ChristianaCare provides advanced, specialty, and primary care services in an environment that emphasizes safety, quality, and respect for every person. In this role, you will deliver evidence-based, holistic nursing care to a diverse adult patient population with a variety of medical conditions, including chronic disease exacerbations, acute illnesses, and complex comorbidities.
The RN on the Medical Unit is responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, development and implementation of individualized care plans, and ongoing evaluation of patient response to interventions. You will administer medications, treatments, and therapies accurately and safely, following physician orders and ChristianaCare policies, while consistently adhering to infection prevention and patient safety standards. Using sound clinical judgment, you will monitor and interpret vital signs, laboratory results, and diagnostic data, promptly recognizing and responding to changes in patient condition.
Collaboration and communication are essential components of this position. You will work closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, pharmacists, case managers, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care, support complex discharge planning, and promote optimal patient outcomes. You will participate in bedside shift reports, interdisciplinary rounds, and care conferences, ensuring seamless handoffs and continuity of care. Patient and family education is a key responsibility, as you help individuals understand their diagnoses, treatments, medications, and self-care needs to support safe transitions from hospital to home or other care settings.
At ChristianaCare, we foster a compassionate and inclusive culture that places patients and families at the center of everything we do. As an RN on the Medical Unit, you will uphold these values by providing empathetic, respectful, and culturally sensitive care, advocating for patient needs, and creating a supportive environment during what is often a vulnerable time in their lives. You will be expected to maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record, comply with regulatory and organizational standards, and engage in quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient safety, experience, and clinical outcomes.
This position offers opportunities for professional growth and development in a supportive setting that emphasizes teamwork and innovation. You may serve as a preceptor for new nurses or nursing students, participate in ongoing education and skills training, and contribute to unit-based projects. ChristianaCare provides a comprehensive benefits package that typically includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, and retirement savings options such as a 401k, reflecting our commitment to supporting the well-being of our caregivers. If you are a dedicated Registered Nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality medical-surgical care and growing your career within a leading, mission-driven health system, we encourage you to consider joining ChristianaCare's Medical Unit.
