Associate Underwriter
Position Purpose: Provides administration/service to prospective and current customer base by supporting the Insurance Operations team. This includes reviewing, processing and distribution of new and renewal business, cancellation notices, and policy change requests. Routine contact with both internal and external agents, as well as prospective and current clients is required.Essential Functions:Underwrite and select business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and within written levels of underwriting authority to ensure an underwriting profit. Follow up with brokers/policyholders/internal customers onany outstanding questions and/or paperwork necessary to complete the underwriting review. Assure that all files are documented and contain an analysis of exposures, pricing methodology and contractual documentation of the risks covered.Processing policy change requests including review and approval of changes that are within letter of underwriting authority and referral of higher risk changes for underwritingreview. Issues policy changes in policy system and generates policy change documents to include cancellation notices and delivers policy change documents to insured and / or agent.Processing policy renewals including review of license status, claims activity, and any other noted reasons for review atrenewal. Generate renewal policy documents and delivery ofrenewal documents to insured and / or agent.Be a point of contact for incoming phone calls/emails fromboth brokers/insureds/internal customers. Responsible for follow up related to additional items needed.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Requirements:Education: High school degree or equivalent experiencePersonal and commercial lines agent license required or must obtain license within two months of employment and requires the ability to meet insurer appointment criteria to represent the company as applicable.Experience: 1-2 years of related insurance experience.Skills: Good verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.Mental Demands: Must have the ability to focus on task for extended periods of time. Must be flexible and have the ability to work with a variety of tasks and employees. Ability to plan, organize, be detail and deadline oriented and maintain a high accuracy rate.Physical Demands: Continuous sitting for extended periods of time, some standing, walking, bending and reaching.
