Job Description: MIG Services Inc. is looking for a Laser Applications Engineer. Will report to the Director of Engineering. Responsible for the successful qualification and development of new laser-based manufacturing processes (including drilling, cutting, welding, marking, and ablation) and the monitoring and improvement of existing laser-based processes. The successful candidate will work with the various laser departments and interact with engineers to ascertain appropriate designs and processes associated with the use of laser-based manufacturing processes on predominately aerospace and IGT products. Training will be provided. Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for the implementation and development of laser-based processes and technology to meet the requirements established by customers and procedures Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests as well as reviewing Metallurgical lab evaluations Assist in the design of tooling and fixtures related to laser processing Provide technical expertise to develop new or make improvements to existing laser equipment with a drive to increase process efficiency, product quality and cost Aid in the writing and modification of internal laser-based processing procedures Provide technical support to operations, sales organization, and end customers to understand and resolve quality and/or performance issues pertaining to laser-based processes Assist in the development of laser quotations Review new customer specifications and revisions to assure compliance Proactively maintain industry awareness and opportunities for new projects Develops laser processing objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans and conferring with management Obtain external approvals and credentials as required by the customer Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Laser Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Optical Engineering, or similar engineering discipline 5+ years’ laser-based processing experience, including laser drilling and welding in the aerospace and/or industrial gas turbine industry Knowledge of aerospace and/or IGT customer specifications regarding laser processes Technical ability to understand the interaction between lasers and materials Ability to read engineering drawings, including GD&T and welding symbols Familiar with CNC programming Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions Understanding of quality systems such as AS9100, ISO and NADCAP Must meet ITAR definition of US Person(s) Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
