Director, Legal Counsel - Contracts

Day to Day The Legal team supports the company’s growth by providing strategic, business-oriented guidance that enables teams to move quickly while appropriately managing risk. We work closely with partners across Sales, Product, Engineering, Finance, Procurement, and others to navigate complex legal and commercial considerations, support U.S.-led revenue initiatives and develop scalable solutions that align with the company’s long-term domestic and international objectives. Responsibilities Own the strategic direction, governance, and continuous evolution of Indeed’s global commercial contracting function, aligning legal support with broader business and revenue objectives, including meeting directly with strategic leaders within client organizations to understand their needs. Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of legal professionals responsible for negotiating and advising on a broad range of complex commercial agreements. Partner directly and meet frequently with the tiger teams responsible for driving adoption of AI‑driven products within top‑tier U.S. major corporations, serving as the primary legal architect for enterprise client engagements. Serve as the senior escalation point for highly complex, novel, strategic, or high‑risk commercial negotiations and provide pragmatic guidance on legal, regulatory, and business risks. Develop and implement sophisticated contracting frameworks, negotiation strategies, and playbooks. Drive operational excellence and transformation across the end-to-end contract lifecycle, including process optimization, workflow design, and automation opportunities, in partnership with Legal Operations and technology teams. Establish and oversee key metrics, reporting, and performance indicators to measure team effectiveness, contract cycle times, risk trends, and operational improvements while ensuring contracting practices remain compliant and commercially competitive. Skills / Competencies Requires a JD, and a minimum of 10 years of related experience, including 7 years in commercial contracts working with top-tier corporations. Extensive experience overseeing and scaling commercial contracting functions within complex, fast-paced, and high-growth organizations, preferably in technology or SaaS environments. Deep expertise in U.S. commercial law, revenue transactions, risk assessment, and negotiation strategy, with the ability to navigate highly complex and high‑impact agreements. Demonstrated ability to balance legal, regulatory, financial, and operational considerations while enabling business growth and driving client adoption of Indeed’s offerings. Proven people leadership and organizational management experience, including developing high-performing teams, mentoring senior legal professionals, and driving accountability across functions. Exceptional executive communication, business partner management, and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships across senior leadership and cross‑functional teams. Business-focused operational and strategic mindset with experience driving process improvement, contracting scalability, technology adoption, and data‑driven decision making within legal organizations. Salary Range Transparency Tier 1 - United States of America 190,000 - 284,000 USD per year Tier 2 - United States of America 211,000 - 317,000 USD per year At this time, we are not considering candidates for this role who are based in the following locations: State of California, Seattle, WA, New York City Metro (Tri‑State), Washington DC Metro Area.
