Fiscal Specialist IV - Treasurer's Office

Job TitlePerforms a wide variety of tasks to support department fiscal operations. Essential Functions1. May: Provide outstanding customer service with excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills. Analyze and interpret customer accounts for accuracy Adjust assessments as required by the State of Maryland Use financial information to prepare and reconcile daily, monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports. Utilize office procedures for processing payments from walk in customers, online payments, and mailed payments. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly balancing of cash drawer and check out procedures. Review deeds to stamp before recordation, bankruptcy correspondence, personal property tax account clearance, traders license clearance, MVA tag renewals, issuing BINGO licenses, and issuing liquor licenses. Apply tax credits to real estate and personal property accounts. Solve daily operational problems of varied scope and complexity. Maintain files and other records to support the Treasurer's Office. Utilize technology effectively in performance of job duties. Require the ability to exercise professional judgement and discretion handling sensitive information. Remain current with County Ordinances, policies, and record retention maintenance schedule. Understand and comprehend property tax law and varied forms of written correspondence. Perform general clerical duties using equipment such as a computer, copier, filing system, phone, money counter, folding machine. Review and process accounts payable invoices and maintain all related reports. Order supplies for the Treasurer's Office. 2. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAbility to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures. Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public. Ability to gain expert knowledge of department practices and procedures. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, accounting principles and accounting software. Ability to follow through, prioritize and multitask assignments. Must be very detail-oriented, have strong organizational and analytical skills. Ability to keep accurate records. Education and ExperienceAssociate's degree; Three years or more of job-related experience; Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience. Additional Requirements: Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results; Must pass a pre-employment drug test. Physical and Environmental Conditions: Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meetings and training rooms.
