Respiratory Therapist
Position Summary:Examines patients with respiratory-related conditions and conducts diagnostic testing. Consults with physicians to develop and implement a treatment plan for the patient. Performs physiotherapy and other treatments and teaches patients to use medications.Reports to: Director of Laboratory and Respiratory ServicesResponsibilities of the Position:Measures lung capacity and analyzes blood samples using a blood gas analyzerDelivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriateEvaluates respiratory care policies and procedures based on patient outcomes, current research, and best practicesResponds to codes and calls for emergent assistance. Assesses patient condition and delivers appropriate treatmentEducates the patient and family about the patient's illness and provides information about community support groups and other resourcesMonitors, receives, stocks, and distributes respiratory care supplies and medical gas cylindersMaintains storage areas with required supply levels and equipmentDisassembles, cleans, and sterilizes equipment, and performs preventative maintenance and calibration of machinesMinimum Education:Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program of Study for an Advanced Practice Level Respiratory Therapist, with an A.A.S. degree, or Certification of GraduationCertifications/Licenses:Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT) is requiredLicensed to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) is preferredCertification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS) and ACLS is required at time of hireCertification in PALS within 90 days of hireMinimum Work Experience:One year of routine respiratory care experience is preferred.
