Apply for JobJob ID85134LocationSacramentoFull/Part TimeFull TimeAdd to Favorite JobsEmail this JobJob SummaryThe Systems Administrator provides senior-level technical leadership and advanced systems administration support for the clinical laboratory and pathology information systems that support patient care across UC Davis Health. This position has primary responsibility for infrastructure, device, and systems support for clinical laboratory applications, pathology systems, laboratory analyzers and diagnostic devices, anatomical pathology whole slide imaging scanners, and tissue slide stainers. Under limited direction, this position is responsible for analysis, architecture, design, implementation, maintenance and high-level technical support of assigned clinical systems and clinical applications. This position will exercise initiation, originality and judgment in applying established principles and practices to new and non-standard problems. Participates in the planning, coordination, development, evaluation, implementation, testing and support of clinical applications utilized by clinical and operational departments. Incumbent implements and provides advanced level device, server, software and network support to UCDHS staff and faculty throughout the hospital and clinics, often communicating and coordinating with various customers, vendors and IT leadership. Aligns assigned technical solutions with UCDH IT Division goals, guidelines and directives. Incumbent has the responsibility for implementing and supporting large, complex and/or unique projects that affect multiple departments and IT teams and will include product analysis and assessment, recommendation, workflow analysis, implementation, testing and roll-out of new technologies. On-Call and after-hours participation as required to assist with the team's support responsibilities, provide technical support for product go-lives, vendor upgrades and other events conducted outside normal business hours.Apply By Date: 5/30/2026 by 11:59pm. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.Basic knowledge of how to apply technologies and systems to meet business needs.Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.General knowledge of other areas of IT. Experience with design, configuration, operation, repair, and tuning of technology systems.Advanced experience writing and editing the most complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration.Advanced knowledge of computer security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing most complex server-based software.Experience leading a team of IT professionals.Preferred QualificationsExperience integrating clinical laboratory analyzers, medical devices, or diagnostic equipment with healthcare information systems using industry standards such as HL7, ASTM, TCP/IP, or FTP. Experience supporting clinical laboratory and/or pathology information systems, including device connectivity, workflow integration, and real-time data transmission. Experience supporting digital pathology technologies such as whole slide imaging scanners, image management systems, or other anatomical pathology imaging platforms. Experience with analysis, build, implementation and support of healthcare information systems, workflows, and regulatory requirements Experience working with clinical information systems or system implementation teams for large complex projects and/or application development Experience leading cross-functional teams in formal or informal leadership roles, providing direction, prioritization, and coordination across complex clinical and IT workflows. Experience in integrating applications with EHR systems using industry standards such as TCP/IP, FTP, HL7, and ASTM. Proficiency with network analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) to diagnose and resolve packet-level communication issues. Experience and knowledge integrating medical devices and analyzers with clinical applications, including workflow optimization, connectivity standards, and real-time data transmission.Proven success supporting and implementing enterprise-scale electronic medical record systems, with the ability to translate clinical and operational needs into functional system design.Knowledge of operations, systems and functions, including planning, design, development, implementation, user support and training, maintenance, quality assurance, and system testing of clinical laboratory and/or pathology information systems and analyzers.Experience demonstrating knowledge of business/clinical operations and end-user requirements to improve or develop system design and training projects.Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with key personnel and management, providing guidance and recommendations on systems, improvements, upgrades, and industry advances and trends.Skills to learn assigned applications and meet proficiency testing requirements, and to maintain certification in assigned applications.Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholder expectations, navigate competing priorities, and ensure satisfaction with outcomes.Skills such as risk management, mitigations strategies and conflict resolution for managing projects.Strong skills in project risk management, mitigation strategies, and conflict resolution for large, multi-stakeholder initiatives.Knowledge of one or more database technologies.Strong understanding of Windows/Linux server and client environments, cloud technologies, and distributed application architecture to install, maintain, and support complex systems.Knowledge of state-of-the-art network systems, using various hardware platforms and integration of multiple third-party software solutions, in a large network environment, with several remote computing interfaces, knowledge of standard computing network configurations and hardware including routers, hubs, repeaters, network interface cards, Ethernet, fiber-optics, LAN software, and diagnostic hardware and software.Knowledge of IT security principles and best practices to ensure secure, compliant configurations and integrations.Key Responsibilities25% - Clinical Systems Analysis25% - Advanced Technical Support30% - Device & Systems Integration Infrastructure Management20% - Technical Project ManagementDepartment OverviewInformation Technology Applications supports all missions and strategic goals of UC Davis Health to provide technology solutions for our faculty, staff, patients, and students in support of clinical care, research, education, and community engagement.
