The team is backed by some of the world's leading VCs (Andreessen Horowitz, NEA, etc.) and is supported by an expert group of advisors including the cofounders of Square and Xendit, executives from Intuit, former Governors, White House senior staffers, and a co-founder of CityMD.Nitra maintains a hybrid work policy, with team members working from the office four days per week and Wednesdays designated as a work-from-home day.We're Looking For:A Controller to lead and scale Nitra's accounting function during a pivotal phase of growth. This is a high-impact leadership role for a technically strong and hands-on finance professional who thrives in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and is excited by the opportunity to build processes and infrastructure from the ground up.The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in US GAAP, audit readiness, and technical accounting, along with experience building and leading accounting teams in high-growth startup environments. You will own the accounting function end-to-end, ensure financial integrity and operational rigor, and help establish the foundation required to scale into a category-defining fintech company.This role reports directly to senior finance leadership and will be based in New York City or Washington, DC.Your responsibilities will include:Own the end-to-end accounting function, including general ledger, reconciliations, close processes, financial reporting, and complianceLead and continuously improve the full-cycle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closeBuild scalable accounting processes, controls, and workflows from scratch to support rapid growthEstablish and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation standardsServe as the primary lead for external audits, including audit preparation, workpapers, schedules, and auditor coordinationDrive technical accounting analysis and provide clear guidance on complex accounting mattersPartner cross-functionally with leadership across finance, operations, legal, and product teamsEvaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and ERP platforms, including potential transitions or upgradesLead, mentor, and scale the accounting team over time, creating structure, rigor, and accountabilitySupport strategic initiatives including due diligence, fundraising support, treasury processes, and financial infrastructure buildoutEnsure compliance with all applicable US GAAP and regulatory reporting requirementsYou have:CPA required8+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2+ years as a Controller or in an equivalent leadership roleDeep expertise in US GAAP and technical accountingProven experience managing full-scope external auditsStrong background in both public accounting/audit and corporate accounting, ideally including startup experienceDemonstrated success building accounting processes and controls from the ground upExperience owning full-cycle month-end closeProven track record of building and leading accounting teamsExperience with QuickBooks and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems such as NetSuite, SAP, or similar platformsStrong ability to explain complex accounting concepts in simple, actionable termsExperience in fintech, healthcare, or other regulated industriesExperience leading an ERP implementation or migrationTreasury and cash management experienceExperience automating accounting workflows and reportingExperience supporting company fundraising or diligence processesPrior startup or high-growth company experienceWe offer:Equity - Everyone at Nitra is an owner. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.Nitra values diversity.
