This is a “product engineer” role: you'll own features end to end, from discovery to finish, not just execute a spec handed to you. It's essential that you already know and actively use modern AI development tools, and that you bring a pre-AI engineering foundation, we're looking for a tenured engineer who has adopted AI as a force multiplier, not a “vibe coder.” You'll need the judgment to review AI-generated code architecturally and catch it when it starts to go off the rails, while staying firmly in the driver's seat on correctness, design, and long-term code health. Our current tech stack is C# on the backend, with Vue on the frontend (React/Svelte experience translates well). This role is roughly a 50/50 split between backend and frontend work, with a front-end lean given the design sensitivity of a donor-facing product like Raise.ResponsibilitiesOwn features across Raise end to end, from forms and campaign pages to A/B testing, analytics/reporting, and data-driven donor upgrades, with the same weight given to visual polish as to functionalityHelp build the next wave of agentic experiences inside Raise, including agentic form and page building for nonprofit customers (leveraging their brand, voice, and data) and extending that agentic approach into email and other donor-facing touchpointsDesign, build, and ship net-new, revenue-driving features across the full stackOwn the performance, scalability, and reliability of the systems you build, instrumenting and monitoring them as first-class parts of the workReview AI-generated code with real architectural judgment, catching issues before they ship rather than rubber-stamping AI outputCollaborate closely with Product and Design to translate donor and nonprofit customer needs into technical solutionsParticipate in code reviews and architectural discussions, contributing thoughtfully without becoming a bottleneck (we're looking for strong opinions, held loosely, not someone who slows the team down nitpicking style)Write clean, testable, efficient code across the frontend and backendResearch and resolve customer bugs and issues preventing a world-class product experienceSupport a culture of experimentation, iteration, and continuous deliveryYou Must Have6+ years building modern web applications, including meaningful time spent running and scaling them in productionProficiency with C# and APIs, plus experience integrating with RESTful and/or GraphQL APIsExperience with JavaScript/TypeScript and frontend frameworks such as Vue, React, or SvelteHands-on experience with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) as a regular part of your development workflow, alongside a strong pre-AI engineering foundationExperience operating cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (e.g., Terraform, TerraGrunt)Strong understanding of relational databases, not just querying them, but tuning them: indexing, query optimization, and strategies for scaling (read replicas, partitioning, connection pooling, etc.)Solid DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD pipelines, containerization, infrastructure monitoring, and hands-on experience scaling applications under real loadComfort with observability tooling (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting), DataDog preferred, and a habit of using it to debug and prevent production issuesDesign sensibility, comfort owning donor-facing, polished UI work, not just functional implementationA love for building quality products that delight users and solve real problemsStrong communication skills and a team-first mindsetNice to HavesFamiliarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes) or modern PaaS deploymentExperience defining and working against SLOs/SLIs, or otherwise formalizing reliability targetsExperience working in a SaaS or B2B product companyPrior experience in the nonprofit tech spaceContributions to open-source projects or relevant technical blogsExcitement about helping teams grow and mature their engineering practiceWhat We OfferMarket competitive pay leveraging Carta dataEmployee recognition through Bonusly (birthdays, anniversaries, achievements, etc.)401(k) retirement plan with company matching- 50% match up to 6% of compensation after 90 daysWe value our employee’s work-life balance and encourage taking advantage of Unlimited PTOSupportive time off including paid volunteer days and company holidaysEmployer-contributed healthcare benefits, encompassing medical, dental, and vision coverage, with plans available for dependents and choices for Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).12 weeks primary parent leave, 4 weeks secondary parent leave - full pay (adoption as well)We pride ourselves on Community and host exciting company outings and events. We’ve recently noticed an increase in recruitment scams where individuals are impersonating recruiters to obtain personal or financial information through fraudulent interviews and job offers. Please note that all legitimate communication from Virtuous will only come from the @virtuous.org domain.
