Gifted SpecialistSalary Schedule: TAThe length of the work year and the FLSA: ExemptReports To: Principal and Assistant Principal, Gifted Coordinator and Exceptional Services DirectorTerms Of Employment:Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.Qualifications:Minimum of a B.S. Degree in the area of instructional responsibility required. (Gifted Teacher)Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in the area of instructional responsibility is required.Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.Duties And Responsibilities:Develop program objectives, enrichment units, and process curricula for the gifted programDevelop lesson plans, including activities and materials, and implement objectives through individual and small group activitiesServe as a resource person in gifted education for all district personnelProvide students with opportunities for interaction with community, state, and national resourcesMonitor students' progress, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports regularlyCommunicate with students, parents, and regular classroom teachers and administrators through conferences and other means to discuss students' progress and interpret the gifted programMaintain professional competence through professional development activities provided by the district and/ or self-selected professional growth activitiesEmploy a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media, consistent with the capabilities of the individual or student group involvedMaintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, administrative regulations, and the gifted program planAssign tasks that are intellectually challenging to studentsDemonstrate interpersonal and communication skillsMaintain professional growth and competence through professional developmentAdhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulationsPerform other duties as may be assignedRequired Knowledge And Abilities:Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of an instructional specialty to which they are assignedKnowledge of student academic growth and development applicable to the grade level assignedKnowledge of the school's program of studies related to mission, goals, and organizationAbility to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programsAbility to plan and implement lessons based on system and state courses of study and the needs and abilities of studentsAbility to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and peersSkilled and effective in oral and written communicationAbility to use and manage technologyPossess the physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environmentEvaluation:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
