Structural Test Engineer

Job Description DescriptionAs a Structural Test Engineer at Impulse Space, you will be responsible for all aspects of structural test equipment design and operations while working closely with a fast paced, agile team that produces high-performance spacecraft from clean sheet designs.ResponsibilitiesDesign, analyze and build static and dynamic structural load test stands in support of the Helios cryogenic orbital transfer vehicle and Deneb engine componentsCreate fabrication drawings, define project execution plans, procure parts and equipmentAssemble, commission, and operate test standsOwn major test stand build up while collaborating with wide ranging teams across the company and at different physical locationsResolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutionsMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace engineering or related field3+ years of experience in structural design and/or testingStrong engineering design fundamentals in structural and mechanical analysisAble to create and clearly communicate fluid P&IDs, electrical and controls schematicsAble to identify and procure appropriate test equipment Prior hands-on operational experience working with cryogenic, flightweight structuresPreviously demonstrated ownership of test stand design and build-upDemonstrated ability of taking project ownership and working well in small teamsPreferred Skills and ExperienceSuccessful demonstration of full life-cycle ownership of structural or mechanical test equipmentPrior experience working with hydraulics, high pressure gases, and cryogenic propellantsWorking knowledge of components (actuators, load cells, LVDTs, valves, sensors, power supplies) and hands-on skills (tube fabrication, metalworking, wiring)Experience with Siemens NX and TeamcenterExperience in a startup or agile development environmentAdditional Information: Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
