This role is centered on driving sales through outstanding customer service, product expertise, and proactive engagement with every customer.The Utech Sales Specialist is responsible for efficiently handling sales transactions while serving as a trusted expert on computers and technology accessories. This individual delivers an exceptional customer experience by actively engaging customers, understanding their needs, and confidently recommending solutions that lead to successful sales outcomes.A key component of this role is salesmanship, listening carefully, building rapport, recommending the right products, and confidently closing the sale. The Utech Sales Specialist ensures every customer interaction is positive, informative, and memorable.In addition, this role supports vendor communication, stays current on technology trends, assists with inventory management, maintains visually appealing product displays, and helps resolve product issues to ensure complete customer satisfaction.This position requires consistent engagement with all customers, including VIP campus visitors. The ideal candidate is outgoing, approachable, and comfortable initiating conversations with anyone who enters the store, treating all individuals with kindness, professionalism, and respect. Learn more about our mission and values here www.store.utah.eduResponsibilitiesAccurately and efficiently process all sales transactions, including standard POS transactions, sales order creation, and service check-in/closeout. Ensure each transaction supports a positive customer experience.Deliver best-in-class salesmanship by actively engaging customers, understanding their needs, recommending appropriate products, and confidently closing sales. Create a welcoming and customer-focused environment in every interaction.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current technology products, trends, and features to provide informed, confident recommendations.Provide exceptional service by answering questions, resolving concerns, and ensuring customers feel supported throughout their experience. Escalate to a manager or supervisor when appropriate.Collaborate with the internal Buying team on product requests, new product inquiries, and custom orders.Assist with inventory counts, ensure product accuracy, and maintain SKU lists and product labeling.Maintain a strong merchandising presence by organizing and updating product displays based on demand, promotions, and inventory status.Stay informed on current promotions and proactively communicate offers to customers to enhance sales opportunities.Minimum QualificationsMust be a current University of Utah student.This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills and the ability to pass a security clearance is required. Some positions require a minimum of six months cashiering experience.PreferencesPrevious sales experience, with a strong emphasis on customer engagement and closing salesExperience with computer hardware/software troubleshootingFamiliarity with point-of-sale ( POS ) systemsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work both independently and collaborativelyPositive, friendly, and outgoing demeanor, with the ability to engage confidently with students, faculty, staff, parents, and campus visitorsSpecial Instructions SummaryAdditional InformationThe University is a participating employer with Utah Retirement Systems ("URS").
