Systems Engineer (All Levels), Diagnostics EngineeringPalo Alto, CA (on-site)About 1XWe build humanoid robots that work alongside people to solve labor shortages and create abundance.The RoleAs a Systems Engineer on the Diagnostics Engineering team, you will lead efforts to diagnose robot failures across mechanical, electrical, and software domains. You'll develop tools and workflows that enable rapid and accurate failure assessments, and collaborate across teams to drive design improvements. This role is instrumental in enhancing system reliability and accelerating hardware development cycles.You WillDiagnose mechanical, electrical, software, and controls failures, and document root causesDebug complex mechanical failures using engineering fundamentals such as drawings, mechanisms, tolerances, fits, inspection, and measurement techniquesUse electrical and system-level instrumentation to investigate faults in robots and sub-componentsDevelop test tools and scripts in C++ and Python to support diagnostics, integration, and data analysisCreate clear reporting from diagnostic and fleet data to drive decision-making and track improvementsCollaborate with prototyping and design engineers to iterate on hardware changes based on diagnostic findingsCommunicate design recommendations effectively to hardware, electrical, and controls teams Must HaveDegree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent experienceHands-on experience debugging complex subsystems involving microprocessors and software-controlled electrical or electromechanical devicesAbility to read and interpret C++, Python, and similar embedded systems languagesProficient in data visualization techniques and toolsExperience with Linux, Git, command line tools, and standard diagnostic equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, log analyzers)Experience designing and building mechanical test fixtures, diagnostic tools, or custom hardwareSolid fundamentals in electrical and embedded systems troubleshootingExperience supporting hardware bring-up, calibration, or production validation workflowsFamiliarity with ROS2, behavior trees, or motion-planning stacksExperience working with humanoid or legged robotic systems is a plus Benefits & CompensationSalary Range: $110,000 - $240,000 + EquityHealth, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with company matchPaid time off and holidays
