Commercial Underwriting Assistant
Underwriting Assistant Core Programs is an established specialty program administrator focused on the commercial habitational insurance class, delivering disciplined underwriting, strong carrier partnerships, and responsive service to retail and wholesale agents. We manage both admitted and non-admitted programs, combining data-driven underwriting with practical market expertise. We are looking for an experienced Underwriting Assistant with 5+ years of commercial carrier experience to provide administrative support to the underwriting team. This role will support our renewal and new business underwriters. We are looking for a detail-oriented rock star with a great attitude, sense of urgency, and strong interest in building a career in the commercial insurance business. This is a remote based position that will require candidates to love and work in New Jersey. You will be asked to work from of our Morristown, New Jersey office for onboarding, team meetings, and trainings. Key Responsibilities Communicate regularly with agents via email or phone to address concerns, obtain needed information, or answer general inquiries. Create and manage the electronic file set up and file maintenance process for new and renewing policies. Collect required documentation and support the filing of surplus lines taxes and fees, when applicable, in accordance with state regulatory requirements and internal procedures. Ensure that applications are completed and endorsed properly for binding. Follow insurance rules and regulatory guidelines to issue Notices of Rescission, Non-Renewal, Notice of Cancellation, and Rescission via ODEN. Utilize our policy management system, IMS, to ensure timely follow-up on the daily completion of tasks such as inspections, NOC's, etc. Issue certified letters and notices as needed using our direct mailing platform, LOB. Assist the team with general day-to-day underwriting responsibilities and participate in various special projects as needed. The Successful Candidate You're detail-oriented, organized, and understand the true meaning of what it means to manage multiple priorities at once. You're a self-sufficient problem solver that is comfortable working independently or in a team environment. You have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Some Requirements Degree in Risk Management or equivalent insurance experience preferred. 5+ years of experience working in the P&C, commercial or other insurance-related business necessary. Computer Skills Must be Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to pick up on new systems and technology quickly. Ability to communicate effectively using programs such as Slack & MS Teams. You are comfortable sharing screens and video chatting. Compensation for this position will vary based on skills, qualifications, and experience. Base compensation does not include bonuses or other incentives that the company may choose to pay at its sole discretion.
