Bicycle Service Technicians provide the mechanical expertise required by our bike customers in a wide variety of situations. Characteristics Good communication skills for interacting with customers and employees. Ability to follow mechanical and documentation procedures carefully. High level of technical expertise. Desire to expand mechanical skills and contribute to our overall service goals. Primary Responsibilities Providing excellent in-person customer service. Performing a wide variety of mechanical work, such as prepping new bikes, performing repairs, building new bikes, repairing damaged inventory, packing bikes for shipping, and much more. Adhering to the service department’s procedures and keeping exceptions to a minimum. Continually seeking to improve customer service and mechanical skills. Secondary Responsibilities Contributing to physical maintenance in the service department and elsewhere in the store. Filling in as needed for non-service-related sales. Signs of High Effectiveness High, consistent quality for all service work. Performs work quickly without compromising quality. Delights customers with in-person interactions, and is successful at suggesting upgrades and improvements. Can work independently for long periods without needing assistance. Documentation is understood by others and does not require spoken followup. Schedule Technicians work a variety of schedules depending on their situation. All techs are expected to work a minimum of one weekend shift, with remaining shifts divided between evenings and days. Major surges are to be expected during the Labor Day and Expo sales. Extra weekend shifts will be required occasionally. Other off-hours events like vendor clinics and company meetings are to be expected intermittently. Variations in assignment Technicians are reassigned frequently depending on service workload and the needs of other departments. Examples of other assignments include: building or pre-building bikes at the warehouse, helping with major maintenance projects, transferring/delivering product and equipment, and many more.
