Coach, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

$100,000 annual W2 compensation, distributed weekly; comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day onePosition based on-site at an Alpha K-8 school in one of the following locations: Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT (Salt Lake City metro); or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance available)This is not a teaching position. Your work is motivation. The kindest thing you can offer a student who reached 99% of their target is to refuse to call it complete. If that expectation feels uncomfortable, this role is not for you. If it energizes you because maintaining standards is how you demonstrate belief in a student's capacity, continue reading.Alpha students complete their academic work through AI-driven applications. No classroom lectures. No traditional textbooks. You will spend half your day facilitating one-hour workshops focused on life skills: public speaking, concentration, and the ability to give and receive meaningful feedback. The remaining half involves sitting with students individually or in small groups, analyzing their performance via Coachbot analytics, and driving each one toward 100% completion of their weekly app targets. You will not follow a rigid script—workshops provide a foundation, but the most effective Coaches adapt them and create new content when gaps emerge.A successful quarter means every student in your cohort completes their weekly app goals, passes the Test2Pass for all life-skills workshops, and 90%+ report they love working with you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means missing the core job expectation. During your first year, you will internalize the established playbook; once you demonstrate the ability to uphold standards, advancement to Lead Guide becomes possible, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct work with students. If you prefer conventional teaching, need fully developed curriculum handed to you, or view warmth and rigor as contradictory, this position will not suit you. If your background includes athletic coaching, camp counseling, tutoring where you refused to let students give up, or performance work that allowed you to command a room of eight-year-olds, the final interview stage involves a full day on campus coaching actual Alpha students. If that prospect excites you most, submit your application now. What You Will Be DoingFacilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-8 cohorts covering public speaking, concentration, feedback, and other enduring competencies, modifying the existing playbook and creating new sessions when you identify a needConducting daily one-on-one and small-group motivation sessions that drive every student to 100% completion of their weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and your individual relationships to overcome resistanceDelivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's mastery-focused assessment) for each life skill, then coaching students who do not pass until they achieve masteryAdjusting your coaching approach across a broad age spectrum, from kindergarteners requiring high energy and physical activity to eighth graders needing direct conversation and accountabilityServing as the adult who maintains expectations and the adult students trust; warmth creates the foundation for challenge, and challenge communicates your confidence in their abilityWhat You Won’t Be DoingDelivering whiteboard lectures; academic content is embedded in the applications, not delivered by youDeveloping curriculum from the ground up; you animate an established playbook through energy and narrativePassively monitoring students on computers; motivation in this role is active, individualized, and persistentReducing a weekly target to help a student reach it; when a student falls behind, the solution is increased effort, not lowered expectationsScoring homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks do not exist in this modelCoach Key ResponsibilitiesGuarantee that every student in your K-8 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting they loved working with you.Basic RequirementsAble to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT; or Toronto, Canada (relocation assistance available)Bachelor's degree in any disciplineMinimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership)A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging goal: the objective, your actions, and the resultComfort allowing AI to deliver instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coachingRegular use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)Nice-to-have RequirementsBackground in youth sports coaching, debate, camp leadership, theater, or after-school programming where you held direct responsibility for motivating children toward defined objectivesRecord of personal high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), indicating that holding others to demanding standards reflects your values, not a performanceNarrative skill and stage presence sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without needing to raise your voiceDemonstrated ability to convert disengaged or resistant students into active, invested participantsAbout AlphaWant to join a learning rebellion that’s transforming the traditional classroom?
