Description: Laboratory Technologist (I, II, III) at Mosaic DiagnosticsDepartment: LaboratoryReports To: Laboratory Operations ManagerPrepared Date: 7/16/2025FLSA Status: Non-exemptSummary of position:The Laboratory Technologist- The Laboratory Technologist performs medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses to provide data used by physicians to diagnose, treat, and promote health and wellness. The selected candidate will be responsible for performing all facets of testing including preparing calibrators, quality controls, and samples for analysis. The candidate will prepare chemical reagents needed for testing and perform maintenance of instrumentation. This position requires strong analytical reasoning, analytical instrument operating experience, and excellent troubleshooting capabilities in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.Duties/Responsibilities:Level I - MinimumPerform laboratory assays in accordance with Mosaic DX standard operating proceduresOperate, calibrate and maintain all laboratory equipment and instruments according to standard operating procedures to ensure quality resultsMaintain adequate inventory of supplies, reagents and materialsMaintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samplesAdhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performedBe capable of identifying problems and patterns that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.Analyze chromatographic and mass spectral data generated by GCMS and/or LCMS instrumentationAnalyze test results and import into the LIMS/LIS systems for patient reportingPrepare chemical reagentsPerform daily maintenance of analytical instrumentsPerform preventative maintenance on instruments and equipment per established scheduleSuccessfully operate all required instrumentation including but not limited to fume hoods, centrifuges, rotators, GCMS, LCMS, ImmunologySuccessfully and accurately mix solutionsSuccessfully and accurately pipette solutions and specimensManage day to day workflow within the department and/or per assigned benchAbility to meet and maintain turnaround time requirements of patient testingAbility to clearly document in all applicable logs, documents and systems for traceabilityReview and suggest edits to Standard Operating ProceduresFollow all CLIA regulatory requirementsClearly and professionally communicate with all staff at Mosaic DiagnosticsCheck email daily and respond as needed by following normal business practicesAccept or reject test results in accordance with standard operating proceduresDocument remedial action, troubleshooting, quality assurance activities and instrument maintenanceAdhere to established processing timelinesAdhere to all quality and safety standardsOther duties as assigned by managementLevel II - Fully meets the responsibilities of Level I plus the following:General knowledge of Standard Operating Procedure writing, assay theory, and instrumentationPerform general troubleshooting for instruments and assaysPerform orientation and training to new employees on all applicable instruments and equipment within the test systemEvaluate and document testing personnel trainingAssist and perform new assay validationAssist and manage special projects as assignedAble and willing to support other departmentsMeet all CLIA RequirementsParticipate on special project teams as requested by supervisory staffOther duties as assigned by managementLevel III - Fully meets the responsibilities of Level II plus the following:Train Staff on advanced troubleshooting skills for instrumentation and assaysAbility to assist staff with questions and be a subject matter exertParticipate in advanced troubleshooting activities in conjunction with Technical SupervisorCross-trained in multiple assays or processesAble and willing to support other departmentsPossess advanced knowledge of test systems or instrumentsVolunteer to serve on various committees and panels to the benefit of the laboratory or company in general (e.g. Safety Committee)Performs training and Qualified Personnel responsibilities as assignedIn absence of team lead or management, if needed, adjust staffing according to volume and workflow.Required Skills/Abilities:Level I - MinimumBachelor's degree in a biology science, a chemistry science or medical technology from a four-year college or universityMinimum of 6 hours of biology credits, 6 hours of chemistry credits and 12 additional science creditsGCMS or LCMS: 1 year (Preferred)Laboratory experience: 1 year (Preferred)Willing to work with potentially infectious human blood and body fluidsAbility to work with automated and manual platformsMust possess skills required for aseptic techniquesIntermediate level of proficiency with PC based software programsDemonstrates a high level of integrity and honesty in performing tests, documenting test results and maintaining patient, client, employee and laboratory business confidentialityExcellent verbal & written communication skillsAnalytical judgment, problem solving skills, accuracy and strong detail orientedLevel II - Fully meets the qualifications of Level I plus the following:Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience as a Laboratory Technologist I.Ability to move between tasks throughout the day to maintain workflowMust be familiar with lab statistical analysisExperience and proficient user of Microsoft office productsLIMS/LIS experience with documentation of laboratory dataAbility to critically think and troubleshootHigh attention to detailLevel III - Fully meets the qualifications of Level II plus the following:Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experiencePossess the skillset to be a trainer and Qualified PersonnelPossess advanced knowledge and troubleshooting capabilityHas demonstrated achievement in advancing laboratory improvements, including participation in committees, panels, process improvement teams, or other related activitiesAbility and willingness to train others Requirements: Physical Requirements:Physical dexterity sufficient to use hands, arms, and shoulders repetitively to operate a keyboard and other office equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overheadAbility to speak and hear well enough to communicate clearly and understandably with sufficient volume to ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group settingAbility to stand for extended periods of time as necessary in the laboratory (4 or more hours)Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 40 poundsPhysical dexterity sufficient to move body frequently around laboratory equipment and instrumentationAbility to continuously operate a personal computer for extended periods of time (4 or more hours)Mental acuity sufficient to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisionsThe essential physical and mental requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
