Sr. Linux EngineerSt. Louis, MO 6 Months Only LocalsThis engineer will support the migration of a Windows-based system to a Linux desktop environment for an IoT-like platform. Responsibilities include collaborating with the team to define and execute a migration path, converting existing desktop applications to the new environment, and hardening the OS by securing and locking down system components.What They Will Do:Assist with the design, planning, and execution of migration from a Windows-based to a Linux-based solution, including host OS conversion and application porting.Analyze existing Windows application dependencies, services, and configurations to advise on a comprehensive Linux migration strategy and target architecture.Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and operations teams to ensure functional parity and system requirements are met throughout the and resolve compatibility issues, driver conflicts, and platform-specific blockers encountered during the Windows-to-Linux migration process.Ensure the new OS configuration is hardened and set up in a secure fashion for distribution.Required Qualifications Include:10+ years of software development experience or equivalent.Proven track record of planning and executing full Windows-to-Linux OS and application migrations in production environments with minimal downtime.Deep expertise in Linux distributions Ubuntu, or Debian based systems, including system hardening, package management, and configuration management.Able to design time-sensitive, high-availability solutions with minimal guidance and high attention to detail.Proficiency in Linux scripting (Bash) and experiencing developing software in languages such as C#, and C/C++.Experience porting or rewriting Windows-native code to Linux-compatible equivalents.BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.Recommended Qualifications:Understanding of Service-Oriented Architectures.Experience deploying and managing Linux-based workloads on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.Docker, Podman, or Kubernetes for containerizing migrated workloadsExperience working with Azure IoT solutions.Ability to design and work with scalable distributed software solutions.Web technologies such as HTML, CSS, Blazor, or Razor Script for UI applications.
