We are currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as the Director of English Education. Position Overview: As the Director of ELA, you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership and support to Concept Schools' network of schools across multiple states. Your responsibilities will include curriculum development, assessment creation, resource optimization, policy communication, collaboration with other content directors, providing professional development opportunities for ELA teachers while building the capacity of regional and school leaders to ensure high-quality implementation at scale. This position emphasizes strategy, systems, and sustainability rather than routine classroom-level service delivery. Travel may be required based on network needs and priorities; and may constitute up to 25% of the total time, with being heavier at times such as the beginning of the school year. This position reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer. Primary Role and Purpose: The Director collaborates with colleagues from various departments, regional leaders, school administrators, and instructional staff to fulfill assigned responsibilities, ultimately contributing to the achievement of Concept Schools' academic goals. The role focuses on curriculum leadership, professional learning systems, data-informed decision-making, and targeted instructional support. Responsibilities: Main Duties: Design and steward the Concept Academic ModelEstablish and refine systemwide instructional frameworks, expectations, and prioritiesEnsure coherence across curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learningDesign and implement content-area curriculum aligned with Concept Schools' vision, standards, and instructional prioritiesIncorporate foundational skills, disciplinary practices, and relevant standards (e.g., Common Core) into curriculum frameworksCodify, strengthen, and sustain the "Concept Model" as the network growsMonitor educational research, instructional trends, emerging technologies, and relevant innovations to inform strategic planning and implementation and keep school & regional leaders informedCollaborate across content areas and departments to ensure cohesive and integrated instructional approachesLead curriculum strategy and effectivenessDesign and implement content-area curriculum aligned with Concept Schools' vision, standards, and instructional prioritiesIncorporate foundational skills, disciplinary practices, and relevant standards into curriculum frameworksSelect, evaluate, and refine curriculum and instructional resourcesIdentify and optimize resources to help school communities achieve specific benchmark goals in social studies.Make informed decisions on instructional supplies, textbooks, and equipment,Lead multi-year curriculum adoption and review cyclesMonitor and analyze curriculum implementation fidelity and effectiveness using student and program dataRecommend refinements based on professional learning sessions, workshops, and network events aligned to content-area prioritiesProvide PD primarily to regional leaders (Superintendent, DTL, regional instructional coaches) and building leaders (principal, APs, building instructional coaches).Teacher-facing PD may include BOY Institute sessions, mid-year regional PDs, group trainings upon strategic request, webinars, and structured virtual office hours in coordination with school and regional leadershipEnsure professional learning experiences are practical, data-informed, sustainable, and aligned to implementation goalsProvide targeted, strategic school supportProvide direct, in-person instructional support primarily for targeted schools, new school initiatives, or new teacher cohorts, in coordination with regional leadershipConduct school site visits and engage with school leadership teams, in coordination with regional administration, to support program evaluation and targeted improvement effortsUse data to identify where CSAD involvement will have the greatest system impactCoordinate support efforts with DTLs and regional administration to ensure alignment and avoid duplication of servicesWhile routine classroom visits are not the primary function, CSAD Directors maintain access to classrooms, in coordination with regional administration, to assess the effectiveness of curriculum and resourcesLeverage data for decision-makingAccess, analyze, and interpret academic, assessment, and implementation data across the networkIdentify cross-school trends, implementation gaps, strengths, and instructional pressure pointsInform strategic decisions related to curriculum, assessment, professional learning, intervention, and resource allocationUse assessment data to support instructional decision-making and identify areas for reteaching and program improvement at the system levelIncrease system-wide transparency and visibility into academic progressStudent Events and External ResourcesOrganize and support network-wide student events, competitions, and academic initiatives related to the departmentInform teachers, school & regional leaders of external events, competitions & opportunitiesSupport schools and regions in establishing partnerships with external institutions when appropriateShare funding opportunities and external resources that support program development and Master's degree in Education or a related field (Bachelor's degree considered based on experience) ? Minimum of 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher in ELA. ? Strong understanding of content standards, curriculum development and instructional best practices ? Proven experience in curriculum development and implementation ? Proficiency in data analysis and using data to drive instructional decisions ? Excellent written and oral communication skills ? Ability to work collaboratively, reach consensus, and build effective relationships ? Proficiency with computers and instructional technology systems ?
