Resin Room Technician
Job DescriptionJob SummaryPerforms general maintenance and preventative / predictive maintenance on a variety of injection, auxiliary and plant support equipment. Individual is required to apply knowledge either gained on-the-job or previous experience of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, to trouble shoot, perform preventative maintenance and complete necessary repairs. The overall goal is to assist in minimizing downtime due to breakdown repairs and PM’s as well as optimize the quality of products manufactured to the highest degree. Also coordinates all daily activities in resin room and silo area while planning ahead for future projects and improvement activities.Reporting RelationshipMaintenance SupervisorSpecific Responsibilities / Essential FunctionsCoordinates daily resin room activitiesWorks with operations and planning to set up resin room to optimize regrind consumptionPlanning ahead for reconfiguration of resin room for resin changeoversExecuting equipment improvement projects in resin room and silo areaServes as backup for resin handlerMust have the ability to scale the silos and blending laddersMust have working knowledge of rail yard safety and offloading proceduresMust display in-depth knowledge of all resin handling equipment and methodologies, or posses the ability to learn all functionsTrain a variety of positions in flow and operation of the entire resin system including alternative delivery methods, troubleshooting and best practicesApply knowledge of the following in maintenance and repair of injection, auxiliary and support equipment:MechanicalElectricalPneumaticApplies Knowledge Of Machines And Processes For Each Of The Following To Analyze, Set-up And Maintain Equipment For Safe And Continuous OperationInjectionMechanical SystemsResin Conveying systemsSilosResin BlendersDust collection systemsAbility To Apply Knowledge Of Each Technical RequirementAbility to competently and with a reasonable degree of accuracy trouble-shoot electrical circuitsMust be capable of working on, change motors, install relays and starters, and install control circuitsMust be capable of working on equipment to repair, change or upgrade the status of equipmentMust be capable of performing maintenance on all types of equipment represented in the plant with a reasonable degree of skill and competencyMust have a reasonable degree of skill with, drying, conveying, blowing and vacuum pumps, pneumatic circuits.Must be able to use CMMS and parts systems to order and track machine parts.Follows all established safety rules and guidelines as outlined in the Amcor “No Injuries Safety Contract” and as trained. Understands and communicates all hazards and safety issues to co-workers and Supervisors. Properly uses all required personal protective equipment.Performs other related duties as directed by the Maintenance Manager to insure the smooth and orderly operation of finished product movement in the area assigned.AuthorizationThose employees with authorized training, have the ability to shut down / stop equipment if continued operation is a threat to any employee’s health and safetyRecommend Staff stop production for unacceptable qualityRecommend Staff quarantine out-of-specification products, materials or suppliesContact any member of Management without fear of reprisal concerning questions, suggestions, or complaints regarding quality, working conditions or job environmentJob Specifications and RequirementsEducation And ExperienceHigh school diploma or graduate of vo-tech program preferredCompleted all requirements of Mold Technician or prove previous experience as a Maintenance Mechanic in a Manufacturing environmentPhysical Requirements: This is a heavy physical demand jobLift / push / pull up to 100 pounds 50 feet using a hydraulic hand jack (this is the equivalent of a static push / pull of approximately 70 pounds).Maximum frequent lifting weight of 75 pounds from ground to 6 feet overhead.Occasional frequency of lifting up to 100 pounds from ground to 6 feet overhead.Maximum frequent carrying weight of 60 pounds for 10 feet.Employees are required to stand / walk for up to 11 hours per shift on a concrete floor.Employees must be able to work 12-hour shifts day or nights, including weekends and holidays.Employees are required to bend; turn / twist; kneel; squat; crawl; climb; reach out and up; turn wrist; grasp; pinch; and have finger manipulations.Required Safety EquipmentEmployees are required to continuously wear hearing and eye protection, as well as protective clothing including steel toe shoes.Employees must wear hard hats during operation of cranes or man-lifts.Environmental FactorsContinuous noise of 85dBFrequent exposure to chemicalsOccasional exposure to dust / fumes / gasHeightsConfined spacesOther RequirementsSupplies own tools sufficient to perform maintenance tasks in the disciplines of the scope needed to perform assigned duties. This includes basic electrical test tools, industrial hand tools, air tools, hand tools, plumbing tools, welding tools, and specialty tools needed for specific job tasks in blow molding and injection, and mold repair / maintenance. Must also supply own toolbox to adequately secure tools.Ability to recognize and understand numbers and values related to job functions.Ability to visually and mentally make priority decisions / judgement calls based on the situation at hand.Proficient hand / eye coordination to operate equipment and assemble packaging for shipment. Ability to communicate clearly.
