Automotive Technology Instructor Full-time

DescriptionThis position is a full-time tenure track, 10-month classroom teaching assignment in the Aerospace, Industrial Arts, and Applied Technologies Division. The current teaching load is 15 lecture hour equivalents per semester. Faculty are also responsible for 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, curriculum development and campus committees is expected. The teaching assignment may include courses offered in either onsite, online and/or hybrid format, evening and or Saturday classes.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIESTeach Automotive Technology courses in both lecture and laboratory settings using various teaching methods, demonstrations, and active learning strategiesMaintain regular posted office hours that are accessible to studentsMaintain records of attendance, census, grades, and related instructional documentationProvide an environment conducive to effective learning and student successCommunicate effectively, both orally and in writingEstablish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and industry partnersDemonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college studentsParticipate in faculty/division meetings, program review, curriculum planning and implementation, student learning outcomes assessment, and college governance activitiesParticipate in professional development and continuing education activities to maintain instructional and industry currencyParticipate in advisory committee meetings and industry engagement activitiesSupport student recruitment, outreach activities, guided tours, and community eventsCollaborate with adjunct faculty, instructional assistants, and division staff to support program operationsAssist with maintaining lab safety standards, equipment needs, and instructional supply coordinationBe available to teach day, evening, weekend, dual enrollment, off-site, or alternative modality courses as needed by the programSupport student retention, workforce preparation, internships, apprenticeships, industry certification pathways, and employer partnershipsSupport program visibility through outreach projects, showcases, and community partnershipsTravel between District locations as neededPerform other instructional-related duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS(Applicant must meet one of the following)Any bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of experience OR any associate degree AND six years of experience OR equivalency:Antelope Valley College Equivalency: Equivalency Approved Expires 12/16/28College work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to a Baccalaureate degree and two years of related occupational experience in the discipline; or college work, military training, or nationally recognized certifications equivalent to an associate degree plus six years of occupational experience related to the discipline OREight years of experience in the automotive service occupation, two years of which must have included assignment as a supervisor, instructor, trainer or owner of an automotive service shop.And a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students (tit. 553024.1).Desired QualificationsExtensive automotive experience. Experience developing NATEF /ASE P1, P2, and P3 student lab documents. Experience developing and implementing curriculum, lecture material, lab activities, and testing that aligns with NATEF /ASE certification or equivalent. Testing must include evaluation of both understanding and hands-on ability. Experience recruiting potential students, performing outreach, developing industry partnerships, serving on campus wide committees, and additional activities to benefit the automotive program outside of the classroom. Experience using Canvas to lay out course content. Demonstrated experience in course planning documentation, daily lesson plans, and related support materials specific to the content areas that support student success. Knowledge or experience with career tech education content development and presentation styles. Certification in ASE A1-A8 areas and maintenance and light repair (G1). Certification in ASE advanced engine performance (L1) preferred. Certified Bureau of Automotive Repair Smog instructor EO and EI license preferred. Experience collaborating with full-time and adjunct faculty to develop, update and review curriculum currency in order to respond to the needs of historically underrepresented students. Currency and depth of knowledge in assigned area of responsibility and subject matter. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work effectively and professionally with colleagues and members of the campus community.
