See details about what we do .This position is a member of our Environmental Law Division.Here’s What You’ll Be Doing Represent Executive Director during the contested case hearing process—handles the more prolonged, complex, or unusual matters—and at agency agenda meetings, alternative dispute resolution proceedings and/or other agency proceedings. Assist the Office of the Attorney General in civil actions brought by or against the agency. Negotiate settlement agreements. Confer with and advise agency staff on interpretation and application of laws and rules concerning the agency. Participate in the drafting of, or related work on, agency rules. Respond to public inquiries. Prepare legal opinions on behalf of division, interpreting provisions and reviewing drafts of laws and rules affecting agency operations and administration. Conduct legal research. Prepare legal opinions, briefs, and other legal documents. Analyze bills during the legislative session for impact on the agency. Participate in various special projects for the Environmental Law Division, e.g., conducting training, serving on or assisting the Legislative Assignment Team, etc. QualificationsREQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEAdmission to the State Bar of Texas plus five years of full-time experience in the practice of law, or employment in a responsible position involving legal work as a primary duty or three years of full-time experience in the practice of environmental law or employment involving environmental legal work.OROne year six months of full-time experience as an Attorney II for the TCEQ.Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2).
