Job Title: Cultural Arts Teacher (Music)Salary Schedule: Certified; CHCCS Salary ScheduleReports To: School PrincipalSalary Grade: Teacher, eligible for local supplementWork Location: Northside Elementary School FLSA Status: ExemptWork Schedule: 10 Month Position SummaryAt CHCCS, a teacher's goal is to provide each student with the help, counsel, and learning experience needed to make progress toward educational goals established, to create a flexible instructional program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, and to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to live a rewarding life in an ever-changing world.Essential DutiesDevelops lesson plans and instructional materialsProvides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each studentCreates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the studentsEstablishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroomGuides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goalsEstablishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to the studentsEmploys a variety of instructional techniques and instructional mediaEvaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reportsCommunicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interprets the school programIdentifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problemsMaintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and through self-selected professional growth activitiesParticipates in curriculum development programs as requiredParticipates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activitiesInstructs pupils in a classroom, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activitiesDevelops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupilTranslates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instructionCreates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the studentsEstablishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroomGuides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goalsEstablishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects, and communicates these objectives to pupils.Evaluates pupil performance and growth using a variety of formative and summative evaluation toolsCommunicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress and interprets the school programCollaborates with colleagues to promote an optimal learning environment for pupilsPerform related duties as assigned by supervisorMaintain compliance with all company policies and procedures Education/Experience RequirementsHolds, or is eligible to hold, a North Carolina Professional Educator's license in the assigned areaBachelor's Degree requiredPrior teaching experience preferredSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable Physical RequirementsAbility to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standardsAbility to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standardsDisclosureThis document provides descriptive information about the above Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School position.
