This role is ideal for a civil engineering professional with hands-on experience in construction inspection, field documentation, quantity tracking, and infrastructure project execution.The selected candidate will collaborate closely with Project Managers and senior engineering staff to support roadway, transportation, and civil infrastructure projects from construction through completion.Job Title: Construction Engineer IILocation: Lisle, ILJob Type: Full-Time | Permanent | OnsiteKey ResponsibilitiesConstruction Engineering & Field OversightReview and interpret contract drawings, specifications, and construction documentsMonitor and document construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans and specificationsIdentify and report non-compliant work or field issuesMeasure and calculate quantities of completed project workAssist with construction inspection activities across transportation and civil infrastructure projectsSupport project scheduling, cost tracking, and estimating effortsDocumentation & ReportingPrepare daily field reports and technical documentationMaintain accurate project records, construction logs, and quantity tracking reportsGather project data and support engineering evaluations and field decisionsCoordinate with contractors, project managers, and engineering teams throughout project executionTeam CollaborationWork alongside senior engineers and project leadership on project deliveryProvide guidance and quality review support to junior staff when neededSupport project coordination and stakeholder communicationContribute to maintaining project schedules, safety standards, and quality expectationsQualifications RequiredBachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline3+ years of experience in construction engineering, civil engineering, or transportation infrastructure projectsExperience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, and contract documentsKnowledge of CPM scheduling and construction estimating principlesUnderstanding of construction engineering practices, procedures, and field inspection processesExperience with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and/or Civil 3DProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)Ability to work in both field and office environments throughout all seasonsStrong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skillsPreferredPE license or progress toward licensureFamiliarity with soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and bituminous materialsExperience supporting roadway, transportation, or infrastructure construction projects
