The role supports the operation, sustainment, integration, and troubleshooting of clinical information systems and networked medical technologies used across VA medical centers.The selected candidate will provide technical support for clinical information systems and device integrations including systems such as MUSE Cardiology Information System, Intensive Care Unit Clinical Information Systems (ICU-CIS), Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), and other network-connected diagnostic and therapeutic platforms. The specialist will ensure these systems operate reliably, securely, and in compliance with VA biomedical engineering and cybersecurity requirements.Responsibilities include installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medical equipment and information systems; supporting system interfaces between medical devices and hospital IT infrastructure; assisting with cybersecurity vulnerability remediation; maintaining accurate device inventory and configuration documentation; and supporting lifecycle sustainment activities for networked medical technologies.The role requires close coordination with VA Biomedical Engineering staff, clinical personnel, IT operations, and cybersecurity teams to ensure medical systems supporting patient care remain secure, compliant, and fully operational.Location: Nationwide (VA Medical Centers and Outpatient Clinics)Employment Type: Full Time / ContractPosition Overview:Seeking a Biomedical Technician / Equipment Support Specialist for Networked Medical Systems to support and maintain information systems (e.g., MUSE, ICU-CIS, PACS) associated with medical devices across VA facilities.Required Qualifications:Same education options as above (biomedical technology, electronics, engineering, IT, DoD training, or HTM certificate as outlined above)Minimum 3 years hospital or healthcare experience with medical equipment maintenanceMinimum 1 year specialized experience with medical information systems and networkingSpecialized Skills:Advanced knowledge of computer/server-based medical devices, proprietary/generic medical software, virus protection, and security toolsExperience in TCP/IP, HL7, DICOM standards, network troubleshooting, VLAN configuration, IP addressing, subnetting, and network securityAbility to maintain, interface, and troubleshoot networked medical equipment and distinguish network from non-network problemsFamiliarity with network test equipment and toolsUnderstanding of regulatory and International Standard Organization (ISO) requirementsAbility to read and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawingsAdditional Requirements:Familiarity with test equipment setup and useUnderstanding of regulatory agencies, industry standards, and ISO requirementsAbility to read and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawingsBasic networking principles (ACL, TCP/IP, VLAN)Physical ability to frequently lift objects up to 40 lbs and occasionally more, bend, climb, and work in tight spacesStrong analytical and communication skillsMust pass VA credentialing and background check, and comply with all safety, infection control, security, and facility policiesMust be able to travel as needed to assigned VA facilitiesPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all timesU.S. citizenship or legal work status requiredMust be approved by VA/L-COR before startSynensys offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long-term disability plans, paid time off, 10 paid company holidays and a 401(k) with company match.Synensys is a veteran-owned small business providing consulting, learning, and analytical services to healthcare organizations to improve patient safety, team performance, and other key organizational performance outcomes.
