Full-Time Police Officer

ASSIGNMENTPOSITION INFORMATIONPositions in this classification are assigned to work eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, 11 months per year.Summary Of DutiesUnder the direction of a Principal at an elementary or intermediate school or Assistant Principal at a high school, performs a wide variety of clerical and secretarial duties to manage school office activities and to relieve the Principal or Assistant Principal of a variety of administrative detail; serves as a lead worker; performs public relations and communications services; assures smooth operations of the school; and performs other related duties as required.Employment RequirementsEDUCATION: Graduation from high school or equivalency is required. One year of college-level course work in secretarial science, office management, business, public administration or related field is required. An additional year of full-time experience at least at the level of Senior Office Assistant may be substituted for the required education.EXPERIENCE: Two years of full-time clerical experience is required. Experience as a secretary is desirable.Any other combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge, abilities and traits may be considered.LICENSES/LANGUAGE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS: A valid Class C, California driver's license, a good driving record and use of a private automobile may be required, and if so, must be maintained during employment. The ability to speak and read Spanish and English is required. A TYPING/KEYBOARDING CERTIFICATE (MINIMUM 50 NET WPM) ISSUED DURING THE LAST TWO YEARS MUST BE PRESENTED PRIOR TO THE FIRST TEST. A valid first aid certificate, comparable to the American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certificate must be presented to the Personnel Department prior to or within 90 days of employment.EXAMINATIONEXAMINATION-OPEN/PROMOTIONAL WITH DUAL CERTIFICATION: The examination will consist of three parts. The interview will evaluate your knowledge of: telephone procedures; lead worker principles and practices; basic accounting terminology and your ability to: plan and organize work; exercise good judgment and establish/maintain good working relationships including application of good public relations principles. Only a limited number of candidates who receive the highest scores will be invited to the in-basket which will evaluate your ability to: follow oral and written directions; gather, read, analyze, interpret data; exercise good judgment; plan and organize work; establish and maintain good working relationships and write clearly and concisely using proper format, good grammar, spelling and punctuation. The language proficiency test will evaluate your ability to speak and read Spanish and English fluently.Examinaition WeightsInterview – 50%In-Basket – 50%Language Proficiency – Pass/FailSUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONAPPOINTMENTCandidates who pass the testing process will be placed on an eligibility list in rank order after promotional credits are added to the test scores of promotional candidates. Current employees must include with their application, verification of participation in professional growth training or continuing education within the last two years to receive promotional points. The top three ranks of eligibles who are ready and willing to accept the position shall be referred to the hiring administrator for interview. All new employees are subject to passing a physical examination, tuberculosis test, background review and must provide satisfactory evidence of authorization to work in the United States. Employment start date is contingent upon fingerprinting and criminal background clearance. New employees will be charged a processing fee (approximately $66) for the cost of fingerprinting. The eligible selected must successfully serve a probationary period of six (6) months.ELIGIBILITY LISTSIf the examination is held on a promotional basis, promotional candidates (i.e. regular District employees) will be placed on the promotional eligibility list. Open candidates will be placed on the open eligibility list. Dual certification examinations shall have only one list containing open and promotional candidates. Candidates receiving passing scores on each test will be placed in rank order based on their composite scores. Eligibility lists are normally established for one (1) year but may be extended an additional year. Should an eligibility list fail to provide three ranks of eligibles who are ready and willing to accept employment, the list may be immediately abolished.VETERANS CREDITFor entry level classes, veterans with thirty (30) days or more of service who obtain a passing score shall be allowed an additional credit of five (5) points and disabled veterans receive ten (10) additional points. Veterans must supply a copy of their Honorable Discharge or a Certificate of Honorable Active Military Service along with their application in order to receive such credit.ADVANCED SALARY STEP PLACEMENTEmployees are normally placed at Step A of the salary range for that classification. Placement at other than Step A for applicants may be made when there is recruitment difficulty or when the training and experience of the individual selected is significantly higher than the minimum qualifications. If the hiring authority recommends advanced salary step placement to the Personnel Director, then the new employee's eligibility will be determined in accordance with Personnel Commission Rule and Regulation 17.2.1. The Personnel Commission shall have final approval on any initial salary step placement recommendations. Contact the Personnel Commission office for further information if you are hired.BENEFITS are earned by all regular full-time and part-time classified employees as listed below:Vacation: Employees with one to five years of service earn vacation at the rate of one (1) day for each month in paid status for a maximum of 12 vacation days per year. The number of vacation days earned progressively increases as provided in the RUSD-CSEA Agreement, Appendix A. Part-time employees earn vacation benefits prorated on the average number of hours worked per day per month in their regular assignments.Holidays: Thirteen (13) paid holidays are earned each year and one (1) floating holiday per calendar year.Sick Leave: One (1) day of sick leave is earned for each full month of service which may be accumulated from year to year.
