Position Summary
SMC Packaging Group is seeking a motivated and results-driven Belcrest Auto Cell Lead to oversee production operations on all Belcrest Automatic Converting Equipment during an assigned shift. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production while driving continuous improvement in productivity, staffing, machine performance, and waste reduction.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with experience in manufacturing operations, team development, and lean manufacturing principles. This position works closely with production leadership, planning, scheduling, and quality teams to achieve operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Development
Train, coach, and monitor employees to ensure compliance with all safety standards and procedures.
Assist leadership in staffing Belcrest Auto operations and equipment appropriately.
Provide performance coaching, counseling, corrective action, and discipline in accordance with company policies.
Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Production & Operational Excellence
Maintain high standards of quality, productivity, and efficiency through training and reinforcement of best practices.
Identify, analyze, and resolve barriers to production performance, including training gaps, downtime, maintenance concerns, and process inefficiencies.
Lead continuous improvement efforts to enhance throughput, quality, and operational effectiveness.
Work with production teams to improve machine setup times and increase overall productivity.
Support production planning and scheduling efforts to meet customer expectations and production goals.
Performance & Administrative Responsibilities
Monitor key performance measures established by the Belcrest Auto Cell Superintendent.
Enforce company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Review and approve employee timesheets for payroll accuracy.
Assist with overtime scheduling and temporary staffing requests.
Maintain inventory levels of inks and other supplemental production materials.
Promote and maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the work area.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsRequired
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing, corrugated packaging, or production leadership experience.
Leadership experience and/or demonstrated expertise in the corrugated packaging industry.
Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and team-building abilities.
Ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
Strong organizational and documentation skills.
Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Preferred Skills
Lean manufacturing experience.
Knowledge of Kiwi, FFF, Linux, and related production systems.
Conflict resolution and employee engagement skills.
Goal-oriented mindset with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Note: Employment is subject to a 60-day probationary period and subsequent performance evaluations.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the production area regularly.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed.
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment.
Ability to use computers and related technology tools effectively.
Working Conditions
This position operates in a manufacturing environment and may involve prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting depending on operational needs. Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, warehouse conditions, and moderate noise levels from production equipment and machinery.
