This seasonal leadership role is ideal for someone passionate about youth development, environmental education, and creative expression.This position oversees our Art & Nature Day Camp serving youth ages 7-11, blending environmental exploration, hands-on art experiences, and outdoor recreation into a safe, engaging, and enriching summer program.The Art & Nature Day Camp Director is responsible for the overall supervision and daily operations of the camp program. This includes leading staff, supporting program planning, coordinating activities and field trips, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers and staff.Schedule: Primarily Monday-Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends as needed.Employment Period: May-August 2026Examples of DutiesProvide leadership and oversight for the Art & Nature Day Camp programSupervise Youth Recreation Supervisors, Youth Recreation Leaders, and youth volunteersFoster a safe, inclusive, and positive camp environmentOversee daily camp operations and program flowSupport development and implementation of engaging, age-appropriate programmingincluding:Nature exploration and environmental educationOutdoor recreation and group gamesVisual arts, crafts, and creative projectsTeam-building and cooperative activitiesCoordinate weekly guest presenters, artists, and nature educatorsPlan and coordinate off-site field trips, including transportation, supplies, and communicationwith familiesCommunicate effectively with parents/guardians, staff, and participantsManage camper and staff behavior using positive behavior guidance techniquesAssist with screening, training, and mentoring youth volunteersOrder and manage program supplies and materials (art and outdoor equipment) •Maintain accurate records and serve as timekeeper for camp staffEnsure program spaces are organized, clean, and maintained according to department standardsTrain and support staff in delivering high-quality art and nature-based programmingReport directly to the assigned Recreation CoordinatorPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsSuccessful candidate must be 18 years of age.Valid Driver's license and a good driving recordRequires daily attendance.Current CPR and First Aid certification required (free training is provided before campstarts)Must pass a pre-employment screening processAbility to organize, direct and coordinate multiple tasks related to several programs atseveral site locations.Ability to deal with diverse populations.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to establish and maintain a good working relationship with other employees.Ability to understand and implement program policies.• Ability to supervise 12-14 staff members.High school graduate or GED.Supplemental InformationExperience and TrainingEducational background in recreation, therapeutic recreation, education or related experience.Supervisory experience.Current certification in First Aid and C.P.R. preferred (free training will be offeredEEO Policy: The City of West Linn is committed to equal employment opportunity as a way to recruit, hire, and retain the most qualified employees.
