Job Title: Structural Welder Job Location: Norfolk, VA Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Structural Welder to join our shipyard team in Norfolk, VA. The Structural Welder will be responsible for performing high-quality welding on various ship structures, including hulls, bulkheads, frames, and other steel components. The ideal candidate will have prior shipyard experience and the ability to work in accordance with Navy, ABS, and company standards while ensuring the highest levels of safety and craftsmanship. Key Responsibilities: Perform structural welding (MIG, TIG, Flux Core, and Stick) on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloys as required. Weld, fabricate, and repair ship structures in accordance with blueprints, drawings, and welding procedures. Read and interpret welding symbols, technical drawings, and specifications accurately. Set up and operate welding machines and related equipment safely and efficiently. Inspect completed welds for conformance to specifications and repair any defects. Work closely with shipfitters, riggers, and supervisors to ensure accurate assembly and installation. Maintain welding certifications as required by NAVSEA, ABS, or AWS standards. Adhere to all safety, quality, and environmental regulations within the shipyard. Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized. Qualifications & Requirements: High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training preferred. 3–5 years of experience as a Structural Welder in a shipyard or industrial setting. Ability to pass required welding certifications (NAVSEA 248, AWS D1.1, ABS, or equivalent). Strong knowledge of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) processes. Experience working on Navy or commercial vessels preferred. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in physically demanding environments. Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling. Must be able to work in confined or elevated spaces aboard ships. Ability to wear PPE, including welding hoods, gloves, safety glasses, and respirators.
