We inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to enhance their social, physical, intellectual and spiritual well-being through programs of excellence rooted in Jewish values.Core Responsibilities include:Supervision and EngagementSupervise and engage with all participants (ages 4-21) in programs and activities while under the position's care.Leadership and Professional DevelopmentTeach instructional swim lessons using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum.Teach staff and campers about expected behavior during pool time and appropriate use of equipment.Effectively motivate and delegate responsibilities to counselors.Demonstrate emerging leadership skills while assisting with leading the group.Camper CareDemonstrate sensitivity to the needs of campers served, interact appropriately with campers in a variety of situations, appropriately model behavior, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control, and use positive behavior-management techniques.Assist with managing concerns of assigned campers related to their social/emotional wellbeing.Preparation, Planning, and OrganizationCombine efforts with other staff members to ensure programs and activities run smoothly.Assist in daily set up and clean-up of teaching areas and instructional equipment before campers arrive and at the end of the day.Communication and AttendanceRecognize, respond, and report to the Aquatics Director any environmental and/or other hazards.Complete Swimgen or equivalent source for each camper at the end of each session.Qualifications include:Ability to swim.Ability to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems.Ability to effectively and in a timely manner respond to requests from others.Must be able to spend an extended period of time outdoors and in the pool.Ability to move equipment and supplies as required.Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.Prior experience working with school-aged campers of all abilities.Be accepting of, and sensitive to the diverse racial, national, sexual orientation, gender identity, abilities, religious and cultural backgrounds of everyone at Lessans Camp JCC.Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule, responsibilities, and Lessans Camp JCC activities as needed.Priority will be given to candidates who are available the entire camp season starting on June 15 going through August 7.Additional InformationCamp Swim Instructors typically work 32 hours per week. The salary range for this position is $3,450 - $4,500 (total pay for the regular camp season).
