Primary PurposePlan and provide music therapy services, including evaluations, as required or assigned to assist a child with a disability to benefit from special education.QualificationsEducation/Certification/LicensureBachelor's degree or higher in music therapy from an accredited/approved college or university programValid credentials as a Music Therapist (MT-BC, ACMT, CMT, or RMT) as necessary for professional practiceSpecial Knowledge/SkillsEffective communication and interpersonal skillsKnowledge and demonstrated competency in music therapy procedures, education of diverse student populations, human development and learning theoriesAbility to instruct students and manage behaviorOpenness to change and innovation to meet the needs of all studentsExperience1200 hours of clinical training including a supervised internshipMajor Responsibilities and DutiesConduct music therapy evaluations/reevaluations of students referred through special education and provide a written evaluation report for assigned students.Provide music therapy services according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, CCISD board policies, and administrative guidelines.Plan and provide direct and consultative music therapy services consistent with music therapy goals and objectives contained in the student's IEP for assigned students.Work with other members of general and special education staff and administrators to determine present levels of performance, as well as, goals and objectives for determined areas of need.Conduct ongoing assessments of student's progress, keep therapy logs each session recording progress data, and use results to plan and implement therapy.Review existing therapy data and conduct assessments to determine readiness for dismissal of music therapy services.Provide music therapy consultation to teachers, model music therapy strategies, and collaborate with teachers to provide benefit in the student's education program.Integrate the instruction of technology into subject area instruction and use available technologies as appropriate therapy and learning tools.Plan and supervise assignments of music therapy students and interns.Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.Maintain a professional and cordial relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Adhere to local, state, and federal guidelines regarding confidentiality.Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with students, parents, and other staff members.Respond to parent phone calls/messages in a timely manner.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.Create a therapy environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Manage student behavior in accordance with the CCISD Student Code of Conduct and handbook.Provide for care and protection of school property and be held accountable for books, equipment, and other instructional materials.Maintains accurate student attendance, therapy records, and evaluation reports in compliance with professional practice, local, and state requirements.Assists in upholding and implementing administrative regulations and board policy.Manage and utilize data effectively for systemic process and program analysis.Account for the accuracy and verification of all student program data and reports.Implement data-driven decision making for improvement efforts based on best practices.Manage and utilize policy effectively for maintaining systemic processes and practices.Account for the verification of the correct policy regarding all decisions and correspondence.Implement effective policy-driven decision making.Seek and participate in quality professional development activities to improve therapy and evaluation effectiveness thereby increasing student's benefit in their education.Participate collaboratively with colleagues to reflect on one's educational therapy practices.Maintain updated record of all professional development activities.Keep informed of and
