Automation Technician

The position requires a hands-on technician capable of diagnosing and resolving mechanical and system issues while ensuring equipment reliability and uptime. The technician will also assist with instrumentation, communication systems, and basic automation functions, working closely with operations, completions, and technical teams.This is a field-based role requiring adaptability to changing environments, frequent equipment movement, and exposure to demanding operating conditions.ResponsibilitiesDiagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including accumulator-based systems and large hydraulic valvesPerform hands-on mechanical work such as breaking fittings, replacing components, and system cleanupSupport mobilization, setup, and re-commissioning of skid-mounted equipmentIdentify and resolve issues related to air locks, contamination, and general field-related system failuresInstall and wire instrumentation such as pressure transmittersVerify signal communication between field devices and control systems (PLC/SCADA)Assist in troubleshooting automation systems, including PLCs and HMIsValidate field and historical operational data for accuracy and reliabilityConfigure and troubleshoot communication protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU/TCP)Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues between field devices and control systemsSet up and maintain field communication systems, including wireless networks and remote connectivity toolsProvide technical support for field devices such as tablets and laptopsCoordinate with cross-functional teams including operations, completions, IT, and automation groupsEnsure equipment is operational, safe, and ready for deployment within required timelinesSkills and QualificationsRequiredStrong mechanical background (oilfield, maintenance, or similar field environment)Hands-on experience working with hydraulic systems and mechanical equipmentAbility to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently in the fieldBasic knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems (wiring, transmitters, signal verification)Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work without step-by-step directionEffective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teamsWillingness to work in physically demanding field environmentsPreferredExperience with PLC systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley)Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems (e.g., Ignition or similar platforms)Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU/TCP)Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, Wi-Fi configuration)Experience with remote communication systems (e.g., satellite-based connectivity)Job DetailsPay: $37-$43Location: Wright, WY, with limited travel to North DakotaSchedule: 8 Days On / 6 Days Off (Tuesday to Tuesday rotation)
