Electronic Mechanical Systems Technician

JOB INFORMATION: Job Title: Electronic Mechanical Systems Technician Location(s): Garden City Terminal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt JOB OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Manager of IT - Infrastructure, the Electronic Mechanical Systems Technician: inspects, services, installs, and repairs electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems supporting GPA Systems. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors. JOB DUTIES: Performs emergency response to operations requests to immediately repair computer and electronic equipment on container handling equipment, container gate, and port security systems. Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs serial communication devices using portable computing device. Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs low voltage systems including, but not limited to audio/video, CCTV, network, and access control. Reads and understands electronic drawings, blueprints, and schematics and makes necessary changes to schematic and wiring diagrams to reflect as-build or as-modified conditions. Selects and orders materials, tools, and equipment necessary for jobs. Seeks to repair equipment so as to eliminate the cause of downtime and its recurrence. In consultation with manager, sets up preventive maintenance procedures. Shows employees of lesser skills the finer points of electrical theories and practices requiring the highest skill and knowledge. Exhibits a high degree of leadership and must, at all times, be capable of resolving all problems relating to electrical parameters. Troubleshoots and repairs fiber optic communication devices. Maintains a safe, clean, and environmentally acceptable working environment. Reports any equipment that requires repair or maintenance to the immediate supervisor. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Familiar with standard electronic access control equipment, procedures, and practices.Thorough understanding of serial communication protocols including but not limited to RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 desired.Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Windows Operating System and common office software applications required.Thorough understanding of computer network communication including wireless 802.11a/b/g/n and wired Ethernet desired.Ability to use systematic troubleshooting techniques that will quickly isolate and find trouble in cable, wiring, relays, and power supplies.Proficiency in the use of electronic test equipment, multimeters, cable testing devices, common power, and hand tools, essential.Extensive knowledge of solid-state troubleshooting techniques required.Must be willing and able to climb and work at high elevations.Works well with other tradespeople in the performance of duties and must assist the supervisor in the training of other skilled tradespeople.The ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers and the general public required. Experience Military, certified vocational technical school training, or extensive industrial experience in electrical or electronics Preferred Experience in an electrical/electronic field Required Experience in installation, repair, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems Preferred Experience in installation and repair of audio/video and CCTV systems including Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera systems Preferred Education Required High School Diploma or equivalent required Preferred Associate's Degree in Information Technology, Electrical/Electronic technology, Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related field Licenses & Certifications TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Note: This job description is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, job requirements, or working conditions associated with the job.
