The Tax Operations AVP role encompasses a combination of accounting, compliance, corporate finance, tax and risk management functions, and involves tax documentation, withholding and reporting, operational process improvements and technology product management
Responsibilities
The Tax Operations Analyst role encompasses a combination of accounting, compliance, corporate finance, tax and risk management functions, and involves tax documentation, withholding and reporting, operational process improvements and technology product management
Key responsibilities include assisting with: Tax form validation including W-9/W-8 forms, as well as other supporting documents
Process W-8IMY Intermediary Allocation, and Withholding Statements
Annual W-8 recertification or remediation
Daily tax withholding analysis, general ledger management, and reconciliation, including Backup, FATCA, and NRA
Maintenance of reporting obligations, submission deadlines, and tax compliance requirements
Communicate with account representatives to resolve withholding and/or reporting issues
Tax year-end reporting, including Form 1099/1042-S, as well as filing returns 945/1042/8966
Assist with ad-hoc projects, issue resolution, technology enhancements, and other deliverables as needed
Perform surveillance by reviewing exception reports and perform periodic checks to ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines, as well as other established risk and control framework
Work Experience
Experience in a complex financial services environment providing Tax Reporting, Compliance, Risk, Accounting, Audit support
Experience working at a large financial institution, such as a Corporate & Investment Bank, and/or Consulting (big 4) a plus
Functional Skills
Tax Operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) in all the following areas: Documentation (W-8/W-9), Withholding (Backup/FATCA/NRA), Reporting 1099/1042-S), Filing Returns (1042), Abandoned and Unclaimed Property
Extensive knowledge of the United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and rules/regulations including FATCA Chapter 3/4/61, CRS, 871m/305c, 1099/1042s reporting, Unclaimed Property State Laws
Advanced knowledge of tax software [e.g. Broadridge ADP, IMPACT, Markit CTI MD3/TFV, Thomson Reuters OneSource
Strong project management skillset including waterfall and agile principles
Experience using business software (e.g., JIRA, Microsoft Project, Ariba, Tableau, SharePoint]

Manage staff and day-to-day operations, which include Tax Documentation, Withholding, and Reporting
Responsible for tax form validation process including review of supporting documents, intermediary allocation, withholding statements and annual recertification or remediation
Executes tax withholding analysis and reconciliation
Ensures reporting obligations, submission deadlines and legal requirements are met
Resolves withholding and reporting issues
Accountable for year-end tax reports and returns
Liaises with internal departments to abate penalty notices
Evaluates and migrates unresolved tax deliverables
Enhances and optimizes the tax product management work-stream via internal process improvements or vendor relationships
Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and established risk and control frameworks
Monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Key Risk Indicators (KRI), and preparing key metrics reporting
Monitors operational controls
Executes Business Unit Risk Management (BURM) initiatives
Provides regulatory and tax transaction data to clients
Interprets and explains locally relevant tax laws
Applies tax law to relevant industries or lines of business
Oversees vendor management activities such as approval process, invoicing, escalations and reviews
Ensure reporting and filing obligations, submission deadlines, and legal requirements are met
Stay informed of current technical developments and effectively apply knowledge to client situations including understanding of waterfall and agile principle
Education
Degree or equivalent work experience equally preferable
The typical base pay range for this role is between $91K - $114K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation.
